Cup winner whichever team that is enters the Europa League at the final qualifying round meaning that winning the tie puts them in the Europa League group stages and the loser into the Conference League group stages guaranteeing European football until Christmas and considerable income. Cup winners supersede third in the League meaning this is the 'easiest' route to European riches. A team like say Killie or Motherwell winning the Cup would shove Hearts, if in third place, into the Conference League qualifiers. It's a pity we sometimes treat the Cup as not so important as the League and are basically so crap in cup competitions.

Been saying that since I went to football.

Scottish cup the biggest trophy DFC can win.

      LC next then European qualification.

These are the 3 main prizes.....we were within touching distance and put in such a meek performance, no quite as bad as 90s LC final but felt like it to me just after match.

Fans love to yak about cup runs but only really want to be there at finishing line.

Yes. English have a top 5 teams, based on the ability to buy better players. Think our only hope is to try to find better players and that could be based on our youngsters and having a good manager.

Good manager, raising expectation.....this staying up bull that is rampant among our fan base has to stop.......not so that theirs undue pressure on staff.....just more of a "why not us" attitude........and when opportunity presents itself have the balls to take it.

Cup is most likely route but for that you need fans onboard re cups......not cheap talk about wanting a cup run, actually going to the games.......and a huge slice of fortune re old firm.

Still seek aboot yesterday and with so called supporters heading for the exit at 2 zip.

Still tynecastle Saturday hoping we can pull off a miracle

          • If we can build on this season it will be because Docherty thinks he can improve on his decision making and he has the support of our owners to back additional players. Think winning games and trying for success on the pitch is an alien concept for us fans. As Rross says, "staying up" mentality and being happy with that is where we have been for a while.
Let's push for wins against Killie and Hearts. If possible try to improve on pressing the opposition as soon as they get the ball.

I think that Docherty has done remarkably well to get a top 6 finish considering he has had to sign a lot of players on loan for this season.
This would never have happened if he had been appointed manager immediately after Nelmsy had sacked Gary Bowyer as manager.
At the end of last season there were only three players who had a contract for this season and two of them are now on loan at Raith Rovers.
I cannot remember the name of the third player who has a contract for this season.
Nelmsy gave contracts to a number of ‘out of contract’ players irrespective of who the next Dundee FC manager was and if the new manager thought that these players could play to his system in the team.
I can see a wholesale clear out of the bulk of these players at the end of next season as their two year contracts will not be renewed.

Cammy Kerr? Luke MacCowan? Fin Robertson? Josh Mulligan?

I think that it was Adam Ledzins the goalkeeper who appears to be completely out of favour at present.

Why is a wholesale clear out a possibility? This is just a repetition of what has been happening at our club, apart from the season James McPake kept faith with the guys who won promotion and gave them a shot at top league football.
Do players on loan see their attachment to a club like ours as a stepping stone to greater things elsewhere, or do they see us as a desirable club to be associated with. Think the manager is the key. Docherty might be as good as McInnes and I think we should be helping him to build on the players he has brought in and encourage him to play our young players.

The Doc uses the word commit.

Don't mind the stepping stones bit if they commit while here.....to be fair almost all have

Agree, if we get a player that we couldn't afford because he wants to put his talents on display and puts in a shift then full marks to him. Docherty must have been shocked at the performance against St Mirren.

Docherty did not give these players two years contracts as they had been awarded before he was appointed the manager. I think that Tim Keyes panicked and told Nelmsy to get these players signed up on two years contract especially Lyall Cameron, Luke McCowan and Josh Mulligan who could all have signed for another club. We would have received a development fee for Cameron and Mulligan and possibly McCowan if he was under 24 years old.

I think he wuda been gutted more than shocked.

In hindsight I think he wuda played 4 in midfield and got Boateng or mulligan into the team.

Killie and st m strongest part of their sides is midfield.

I think it was asking a lot for mccowan and Cameron to compete with such a lot at stake.

Coupled with the fact sylla didn't have a good game.

I think Doc will be good at tweaking and gaining marginal improvements in the team.....with signings and coaching.

My disappointment comes from the fact even with that top 6 might not be achievable......wait and see.......but we have missed a glorious chance this season despite overachieving.

                            • I think that McCowan’s form has dropped since he was appointed captain.
In my opinion Jordan McGhee would have been a better choice as captain of the team for the remaining games of this season.

Agree. Still beat Killie and Hearts must be an ambition for our players. Least they can do to justify a new deal ?
