I have and will continue to criticise JG when needed, epically regarding the 3 at the back, but I am not one for getting rid quickly. For me he has earned enough credit in the bank for the promotion and our efforts last season when we punched above our weight and got into Europe. The 2nd season in the top flight is notoriously difficult for most teams. No to mention we have assembled a young team on a shoe string, which clearly hasn?t worked and lessons will have to be learned from that. There is no doubt that JG, despite what he says, will be concentrating on survival and getting hopefully further in the cup.

Top six is gone which he knows, I can't see us getting near danger though, we will finish 7-9th, pretty much certain

Cup would be a huge lift but they have to be favourites on plastic and the free week to prepare but with the big United support and the fact we've scored 5 goals there already we are capable

If we'd gone down that road we may not have got promotion and the 4th place finish last year and European football

Footy fans are fickle, don't like the bigger picture

It's fair to say we'd never have seen the McLean years if forums and social media existed in the early 70s
You're doing a great job of ignoring me 🤣🤣

Of course I'm fickle, never ever denied that and it's a football fan thing not an age thing (I'll let you off on the ageism) All I want is a winning team on the park. I'm happy we won last night, but does that solve all our issues? Does it f*ck and we were still a hard watch. Passing is a real concern and it's not just down to the pitch as it's been pretty much the same away from home too. My mood was lifted by Johnny's return of course and that was my main reason for sitting through last night's game as I had no intention of watching until the signing was announced and he was confirmed as being on the bench. Win on Friday night and Jim will be invited round to mine for Sunday dinner along with his 3 (yes all of them) central defenders.

None of this means it's ok for you to continually slate other fans who voice their well founded concerns however. I dont mind that you disagree, but do you need to run folk down just because they dont use stats to make everything seem OK?
I'm neither a happy clapper nor a natural pessimist. I blow with the wind and just love seeing United win. It's pretty much the same for most I'd imagine. I guess being based down south it's harder for me as I can't just moan to my mates down the pub about it, I mean I do but they mostly laugh and dont give a f*ck and take the piss about Scottish football. So the message boards are my outlet I'm afraid. For a while I've mostly avoided posting during games as I know I can get a bit OTT but lately frustration has got the better of me and Saturday was out of order as far as I'm concerned and I refuse to accept us not trying to win each and every game.

F*ck me I need some medication myself after that 😋

Ok, i am replying to this after last nights win, and while i had my seat belt firmly fastened, i had no doubts that the 5 point harness was ever required.

As with another season, not so long ago, i still maintain we massively overachieved last season and maybe this season is where we really should be. To compound this, Well and Falkirk are this seasons overachievers and they have me wondering how next season will treat them? Thing for me is, its been a really weird season with Hearts out front and how bad the Only Fans have been!

Mathematically, we could catch Falkirk, but we could also be relegated, but neither is gonna happen.

And while the football on offer from us is some of the worst ive seen over the last 5-10 seasons, i believe we only need 3 wins to secure that best of the rest position.

Im not his biggest fan, but are things really that bad where we bin a manager and more than likely return to the comedy years? And who do we replace him with as i dont see another manager around who will do a joab for us?

A poor season is not a sacking offence IMO. JG has built 3 sides and has earned the right to make adjustments in the summer and have another go.

It depends on how you look at it I suppose. I thought the Fun were a bit hasty in emptying out Tony Docherty after he guided them to Sixth in the league in their first season after promotion (albeit with fewer points than 7th, 8th and 9th places). They actually finished in a worse position last season than we are now - I think it took until the final game to confirm they wouldn't be in the play off, but I thought that showed a real lack of patience.

We are a hard watch though, no doubt about that. And it is hard to sit by and say nothing when we persist with the same formation and tactics that have yielded so few results over several months.

I personally dont see how he's built a side. Certainly not a cohesive one.
Many of his permanent signings do not make the starting 11, he relies heavily on loanees. Some of which dont deserve to play as often as they have been.
I dont see any evidence of tactical awareness, or putting players in positions that suit their strengths.

Thats my opinion and I respect those with alternative views.

The 3 points v St Mirren were huge and would be great to get through tonight.

Genuine question, what are your expectations for next season?

This is mainly to those who have defended him on this chat?

                  100% agree.

The championship winning season and 4th place season we massively over achieved

As I remember on here people were saying play offs or just surviving would be targets for those years.

I want to stick with JG. Brings a bit of stability to the club - don?t want to return to Liam Fox or worse !!

How in the world of f*ck did we massively over achieve in winning the championship? I've really got to hear the explanation for that. We had by far the biggest budget in the weakest championship for years, so scraping to the title was a massive over achievement aye? Glue!
Stability? This team of ours is f*cking dreadful and simply cannot defend, cannot put a run of form together, starts every game on the back foot and is soft as shyte. Stability my arse, open your eyes man. McGlynn has taken Falkirk from league 1 to the Premiership in consecutive seasons and now has them guaranteed top six and a trip to Hampden on a shoestring budget, thats over achievement!

The way I see United just now is like when Jackie was manager after losing the Tim Two. He hadn't a phuckin scooby what to do. Goodwin is needing his arse booted so he is wearing it as a hat. This three at the back is set in stone. How can we come to beat St Mirren with a three man midfield of Sevelj, Camara & Ayegi then revert to two with Sevelj in the back three? You are not the Irish equivalent of the Italian tinkerman.

When we are mathematically safe from the relegation play-off I would hope both parties say a mutual partings of the way has been decided as the best course of action.

First up I respect your opinion too!

I just worry that, like Hibs and Aberdeen, a mediocre season is not enough for many in the fan base, so they punt the manager, this is very expensive. If you change manager it also means changing coaches, recruitment system and key players. Before JG we had 11 managers in as many years, 4years in 2nd tier, 12m debts accumulated in the process, how much of those losses were payoffs?

In an age of fine margins I would give him another window to sort it out. I think I have seen enough to think he has earned that. We have not been in any danger of relegation and looked good for long spells in games. We won the 2nd tier remember 4 seasons down there before him. Excellent recruitment, some good players in there.

On the down side, poor record in cups, soft underbelly in injury time, and not great starters, poor number of victories overall this season.

A good chairman should know his next manager, as poor form or outstanding form could mean you lose your manager either way. If JG has 2wins and we are in the bottom 3 in October, with the same deficiencies still there he will go. But I have seen enough to give him another go.

If he loses the remaining derby?s and gets humped from Aberdeen, I reckon he will go anyway,

                          Agree

I?m definitely not waxing lyrical about JG but as above he has done more good than bad over the past 2 seasons.

The club was in dire straits before he came in. He has had to work with one of the smallest budgets in the prem this season, think we have only paid for maybe 2 players which has clearly back fired.

Last night was woeful again but we need stability to keep the club on an even keel. For me he remains until the end of the season at least.

What are we calling stability these days? The football is dire, the results not good enough and a manager so afraid of losing he will not send his team out to win. If thats stability then I give up. Meanwhile Elvis currently has his side leading Motherwell and will no doubt teach Goodwin another lesson next week. If some folk are happy with the current state of affairs then good luck to them, but it's a very sad state of affairs when folk think what we are seeing is acceptable.
