This is the top civil servant, who was asked by Boris Johnson to lead an inquiry into the covid Christmas parties, but had to pull out, and resign, because he had been present at them
I can't think why the knives would be out for Johnson after that.
To the surprise of nobody, you're still in denial and burying your head in the sand. The knives were out for Johnson because he knowingly lied to parliament FFS.

What part of knowingly lied to parliament are you failing to understand?

I dont see how you are still confused or taken in by BJ.His own defence was built around his admission that he lied , but he didnt knowingly lie as he thought he was morally correct in adopting his stance against the rules.Eg he knew it was against the rules to have a goodbye get together to say some words of praise for a departing colleague but felt it ok as it would be good for moral! In his head he felt it was the right thing to do.!

This country has never had such an incompetent and dishonest a government than the current bunch of Tories.

The only thing they have managed to do properly is organise and attend parties (and even they sounded a bit ****).

Listening to this today if I had lost a loved one to covid in lockdown I would be livid.

The level of incompetence is absolutely staggering. Boris Johnson seemed to think "we're the Brits, we'll cope" and went on holiday at the time it was becoming obvious it would be a global pandemic. I realise it was a unique and complex situation, but the complete lack of any sort of leadership, preparation and planning is astonishing.

Agreed, and discovering that Johnson said things like "why are we destroying the economy for people who will die anyway soon" will only add to their pain. I wonder if when this inquiry is finished one of them might consider this:

The offence of Gross Negligence Manslaughter (GNM) is committed where the death is a result of a grossly negligent act or omission on the part of the defendant.

That quote looks worse every time you look at it, we'll all be old eventually. Totally sh.t comment from Boris.

Prof Chris Whitty, the government's chief medical adviser, and chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance are doing a good job providing the medical & scientific aspects of the virus. I believe they all are being honest, frank and as decisive as they can be facing this dreadful world-changing virus. I just wish they would not allow the lowlife gutter press particularly the Sun, Mirror & Daily star at these briefings who ask the most bazaar and stupid questions just to try and get a headline. These are strange and frightening times unknown by pretty much most of us, almost a war-like situation but it is what it is and at times like this the leadership being shown is just what the Country needs.
In view of what's emerged at the enquiry today, are you not just a little bit embarrassed by this totally inaccurate post of 3 years ago, Banjo? I know I would be.

Not embarrassed at all old chap, it is easy for you to make that comment with the benefit of hind sight. I’m very pleased to have started this thread as it has covered many aspects of the Tory Governments failings and dishonest dealings. Also, I believe this must be one of the longest runnings threads in the history of this forum. 1-0 to me I believe

How would he know 3 years ago that the statement was inaccurate? Seemed to me at the time that the government was making all the right noises, getting the medics and scientists in and doing daily briefings to the nation. Why didn't Whitty, Vallance and others take a stance and call out the nonsense that was going on?

I understand being embarrassed at how inept and crass it all appears to have been now that the full story it is coming out, but at the time, when we were treading unknown territory it did seem as if attempts were being made to deal with a situation other nations were also struggling to come to terms with.

Personally, and coming from one to the right of centre in general, is that BoJo should face the courts for he contempt he seems to have displayed (and others of course) for the public. He was and seems not to have understood that he was a public servant and the one real opportunity he had to show Churchillian leadership ended up with merely succeeding in failure.

                        • Very strange how Neil Ferguson got off scot free for his actions during lockdown, not to mention why the fcuk he was the go to guy in the first place. His track records with virus modelling had and have been and proved to be completely wrong.

I didn't know, but my guess that it was inaccurate turned out to be spot on.

At the time, you didn't say it was inaccurate - this is what you did say!
