It's all a load of grollox! Any person with half a brain should have thought "We slammed the last lot for snouts in the trough let's be cleaner than clean". And anyway, why clothes and specs? What was wrong with wearing stuff they had bought (they earn enough ffs) and enforcing the fact that they were working class people (laugh my friggin socks off!!) working for the working class people. It's sod all to do with the common good. it's all about being in power.

don’t know why you’ve quoted that post because it doesn’t have anything to do with yours, though funnily enough Badenoch has just been caught using a rich, climate change denying friend’s house as a base for her laughable leadership campaign.Originally posted by forwardmagpie View PostNothing to see here BFP but I will just give back £6k (for Taylor Swift tickets etc) as the optics on these aren’t good but I will keep the other £101k (including a further £16k for clothes that I previously reported as office costs) because the optics on the £101k are fine.
I’ve said above it’s probably best if politicians don’t accept personal donations, even if they declare them in the correct manner. I’m sure if I look further up this thread I’ll see how upset you were with Johnson and other Tory politicians accepting all sorts of largesse and not declaring it.
We only know about Starmer’s donations because he declared them as he should have done. I repeat it’s only a ‘scandal’ because the right wing press and the BBC are treating the Labour government completely differently to how they treated their Tory friends.

Completely agree. Starmer promised change, but he's simply perpetuated the greed and sleaze that the Tories were balls deep in. Accepting free tickets to a Taylor Swift concert is indefensible, just say "no thank you" or pay for them out of your own pocket like most other people had to. I hope this is a big wake-up call to the Labour party.Originally posted by SmiffyPie View PostIt's all a load of grollox! You can’t accept things that are right in front of your face. It’s okay to criticise what happening with gifts and still support the party.Originally posted by BigFatPie View Postdon’t know why you’ve quoted that post because it doesn’t have anything to do with yours, though funnily enough Badenoch has just been caught using a rich, climate change denying friend’s house as a base for her laughable leadership campaign.

For my part I thought that the Tory government had completely mishandled running the country and I didn’t vote for them. They deserved to lose the election although I am not sure the country deserved this Labour government but I hope after a sticky start they prove me wrong.

It's the blatant lying that gets me the most!! Using his son as an excuse for being in Lord Ali's flat to name just one!!!Originally posted by Elite_Pie View PostCompletely agree. It seem Lord Ali has been around the government since Blair days and was recommended by Thornberry his neighbour at the time. He was also around during the tory years, Who the hell is this guy???
Wake up call for Labour? Don't make me laugh it's just the start!!

"But Parliament’s website says, Lord Alli is being investigated over potential breaches of rules about the “openness and accountability” of declarations.
The rules say peers must register “all relevant interests, in order to make clear what are the interests that might reasonably be thought to influence their parliamentary actions”.
The code of conduct also says: "Members are responsible for ensuring that their registered interests are accurate and up-to-date. They should register any change in their relevant interests within one month of the change."

You’ll have to be more specific about what I ‘can’t accept’. To be crystal clear, I don’t care if people accept tickets to Taylor Swift regardless of which party they are.Originally posted by forwardmagpie View PostYou can’t accept things that are right in front of your face. I have you details that suggest his version of events regarding his son appear not to hold water but if you don’t know what you can’t accept then I think you can enjoy without worrying that Mr Starmer’s ratings have dropped through the floor.Originally posted by BigFatPie View PostYou’ll have to be more specific about what I ‘can’t accept’. I suggest you do some research yourself to see why the optics on this are so bad.

This is the problem with politics. Those who have control make you think that you're voting for something different, but you're not.Originally posted by i961pie View PostAccording to the BBC Lord Brownlow gave Boris a loan to renovate his flat and he payed it back but the opposition went on about it for ages. Now Labour have been caught out accepting gifts and why does Starmers son need a penthouse apartments to study for his exams? It just goes to show no matter which party are in they all have their noses in the trough. By the way I voted Labour. No wonder millions of people don't vote any more.
Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss
When someone comes along who isn't part of the establishment or it looks like the establishment is losing control then the whole force is thrown behind discrediting that person or what they stand for. Nearly all of the media today is controlled by the old school establishment. They try and dumb people down and feed them what they want them to believe.
Just look at Brexit, Scottish Independence vote, Covid, anti-refugee protests and that's just in the UK in the last few years. There have been many cases in history of this happening, however it has become much more common as Joe Public now wants more of a say.
In the past, if you were Labour you voted Labour and if you were Tory, you voted Tory - irrespective of their policies. People didn't care, as long as they still had their small needs (a roof over their head, enough money to go on holiday once a year, enough money to go out on Saturday night etc.).Last edited by Lullapie; 08-10-2024, 03:04 AM.
