            • Following on from the recent comments on here re; communist perceptions.

I attended a local football match this afternoon and significantly, whilst talking about recent events , five out of six people , all unprompted , were of the opinion that we are indeed being governed by communism at present.
These opinions were from people of different ages and one was a woman working for a public sector organisation !
Surprising really, that they would have said that without any coercion ?
The only person who thought differently voted Labour at the last election because he wanted a change . He went on to say that he regrets voting as he did and wishes he had spoilt his voting slip!
With regards to the effects of five years of this Parliament, it remains to be seen , if finances and society will benefit positively. Five years is a long time if the SHTF and a lot of irreparable damage may be the result.
There is a distinct lack of both accountability and responsibility from those in office, who of course, remain immune from the consequences of their policy decisions.
There were examples this week,of a Council down South, being unable, or unwilling (?)to help a 21 yr old mum with three children who was , allegedly, evicted because
" the police thought it was unsafe for her to remain in the family home."
Another report concerned a retired NHS worker and his wife ,who were fined £6,000 (for alleged negligence ) because an illegal immigrant stowaway was found hiding in their trailer, whilst returning en-route from a holiday in Europe !

With regards to the gang offences , mentioned on here open clarification and honest publication of statistics, similar to those published in Denmark , would no doubt reveal the extent of the problem or otherwise.
It's OK to pay lip service about the " determination " to protect women, girls and the vulnerable , following events which are happening far too frequently.
Freedom of information requests for such criteria are rebuffed " because the statistics are not routinely collected or detailed."

As for Miners' Welfare Clubs your observations/ perceptions may well be correct.
The most indifference I ever saw and heard, was listening to opinions of various working people, originating from different countries in South Asia and Eastern Europe.

I think Wokie / Leftie David Tennant might be the most upset about her getting the job!

                • What does it matter, who the person or candidates are, or their origins ?
Meritocracy , has been sacrificed on the altar of agendas , which can mean the best person for the task is ruled out of contention by prejudice and tick Boxing.

I meant at the next election if she was still sailing that Tory ship..

I can certainly see how him being a resolute anti-Nazi might annoy some parts of today's electorate.

Because it was curious how the "best person for the task" was always a white man. And in part, that was assumed because they were a white man. Now it isn't always the case, and it is good to notice that.

The problem is that every time something that is not pro-government happens, the government will launch and enquiry, then says that they can't say anything until natural process of the enquiry has been followed, then drag the enquiry out for years until everyone has forgotten about it.

That process has been used heavily in countries like Canada, Australia and New Zealand, as well as having a supportive speaker in Parliament.

As John McEnroe famously said " you cannot be serious ."
I don't think many Canadians would be sorry to see the back of Trudeau either.
Alessandr Solzhenitsyn also made a memorable statement concerning a communist state , law breakers being free and political opponents being imprisoned .
Our dear leader also allegedly championed "The Free Press " recently, as the lifeblood of democracy.
Fake news , non reported events and censored comments being the norm these days ?
Make of it what you will.
From what I see, I don't think Starmer is extreme left. On this one point only, Och Pie, is nearer the truth in my opinion.

I see Starmer as an old school Labour leader - wealthy through his own endeavours and happy to tell everyone (except himself) to tighten their belts.

He appears to be an intelligent bloke, but has a load of nutters underneath him. Once they have their snouts well and truly embedded in the trough of the public purse, they'll look to overthrow him.

I believe he's about as much a socialist as me - to me, he's more like an opportunist, who wouldn't have got anywhere in the Tories, but able to outsmart many of those currently in Labour, who don't have a modicum of common sense.

                              • I believe Starmer has much more conviction than the runner-up of the Tory leadership contest, but probably less than the winner. I do think he is absolutely ruthless in his dealings with others - which makes the own goals around his own gifts more frustrating, though I still think he is under far more scrutiny than the members of the last government were on this issue.

I am convinced that Starmer, like Blair, believes that ideological purity is secondary to the ability to get things done through the securing of power. I don't think Corbyn did, I think it made Miliband uncomfortable, and I think Badenoch will repeat their mistakes too.

As for burying news, well yes - all governments do this. Even so, I think there are some loudmouths on the right who prefer whipping up public anger to seeing someone nasty being convicted in a fair trial. I'm firmly on the other side of that. And as far as SYL is concerned, it is telling for me how so many of the "tough on crime" brigade suddenly want compassion in the justice system - but only for their favoured agitator.
