Yes, let's get Liz back.Originally posted by SmiffyPie View Post"The chancellor has said a crackdown on government "waste" will ensure key public services can be prioritised for funding.
Rachel Reeves said departments would be asked to identify 5% "efficiency savings" as part of a review to set their budgets for the coming years.
The review, to conclude next June, will see ministers haggle for money as Labour sets the political tramlines for the next election."
Austerity but not as we know it?

Southport suspect, the bloke who stabbed a soldier and Ricky 'slit their throats' Jones, all scheduled for trial on 20th Jan. This is the date on which Trump will be inaugurated and it's suspected to be an attempt to 'bury' these stories which will be reduced to a bye-line, below Trump.Originally posted by keldsyke View PostFour and a half months now, CPS no charges yet (Manchester Airport Incident) , Mike Amesbury, any news on him too? I?m guessing the Southport trial in Jan will conveniently put back!Last edited by Med Pie; 18-12-2024, 08:28 AM.

They got what they deserved, Nothing. For decades feminists have demanded "Equality", then they get it. Turns out all they ever want is preferential treatment.Originally posted by Old_pie View Post
There is a saying that I'll paraphrase: When privilege is all you have ever known equality looks like oppression.

Have you a reference for that in this, pension case? I've not seen that this issue is about preferential treatment. Seems more about being treated fairly.Originally posted by MarcusCole View PostThey got what they deserved, Nothing. For decades feminists have demanded "Equality", then they get it. "Chancellor Rachel Reeves defends the government's decision not to pay compensation in the "Waspi" pension case.
She says "given that the vast majority of people did know about these changes, I didn't judge that it would be the best use of taxpayers' money to pay an expensive compensation bill"
I remember knowing about it years before it came into force.

Conservatives did nothing about it, wanting to leave it to let Labour sort out the mess. But Labour messed up with all the comments they made prior to getting in, but now going against it.
I can't understand though why it is only those born in the 1950's. My wife was born in 1961 - it affects her too (not that we want compensation).

It?s a bit odd to be more annoyed at the government who are dealing with this( and the post office scandal, infected blood, Grenfell etc etc) than the government who didnt.Originally posted by Old_pie View PostInded they should have. But I thought the country voted in a different government that was going to do things better, not just the same or worse.
Even when as in this case, the solutions are sometimes not to everyone?s liking.

They call themselves WASPI Women. Woman Against State Pension Inequality. They got equality and didn't like it, they preferred the preferential treatment woman had previously.Originally posted by Old_pie View PostHave you a reference for that in this, pension case? Given that it was first mooted in 1992, legislation followed in 1995 and then a further act of Parliament in 2011, I think people must have been going around with their head in a bucket.Originally posted by SmiffyPie View PostQuote:
