Sorry, but I don't do silly emojis.

If you could explain what that means in plain English I would appreciate it.

The person shrugging emoji can designate ignorance, indifference, self-acceptance, passive-aggression, annoyance, giving up, or not knowing what to make of something. It could also be a visual form of the one-word response of indifference, “whatever.”

Really? What are the medical qualifications of those backbenchers? Has Steve Baker got himself a phd in epidemiology but not told anyone?

According to Wikipedia he's got a BEng in Aerospace Engineering and an MSc in Computation, so I think he's intelligent enough to form an opinion, as I'm sure are many of his colleagues with a range of other qualifications. I don't agree with the implication that only people with medical expertise and qualifications should advise on the response to Covid. Voices representing socio-economic considerations need to be heard too in order to make balanced decisions. We need a healthy economy in order to fund the NHS and many other public sector organisations.

          • Hopefully now we are seeing the beginning of the end of covid. Well done to all the backbenchers who finally saw through Witty, Van Tam and Vallance.

Seems to me that they've just kicked the can down the road for a day or three.

Could ... If ... Lazy journalism.

If we lose all our remaining games we may get relegated. There's my mystic ball at work.

                Meanwhile:

South Africa jubilant as Omicron wave subsides rapidly with minimal Covid hospital admissions and Delta killed off: ‘Expect the same in other countries’
Who the eff knows? Glad I don't have to make the decisions.

Without their advice we'd be in even more of a mess.

People dont like them as they are saying things they dont want to hear.

Facts are this the UK is full of dipsh*ts and proof of it is they would vote this fat mess back in tomorrow.

I think restrictions should have been in before christmas but of course he didnt want to upset people.

He is gambling on things staying flat and imo when public health is on the line you dont gamble.

                      • Just for once try putting your political allegencies to one side and look at the proper science. I have lost all faith in Mr Johnson, but the evidence from South Africa tells us this strain is more akin to the common cold/flu. We have lived with these for years, so hopefully that is where we are at now with covid. No death is welcome, but covid deaths should not be seen to have a 'higher importance' rating than any other death.

Those three professors are highly intelligent, know their field of expertise combined with a vast amount of knowledge have been doing the work they have been doing for all of their careers, not just in the past couple of years which makes them trustworthy. They deserve the nations full respect.

When mankind first took to the skies it required the pilots and later passengers to put a degree of trust in the engineers, and aircraft manufacturers that designed and built the aircrafts to be as safe as can be.

All three of them are humble, conduct themselves in a dignified manner and have been informative with facts throughout. The two that don't have knighthoods deserve them and should be top of the Queens Honours list in the future.

The professor's might not say what people want to hear, but then they are not there to do the work of politicians.

C’mon Jackal, if you thought you had cancer would you go and see your dentist if he was ‘intelligent enough to form an opinion’? Particularly if that dentist thought that mask wearing was a sign of a society ‘heading towards hell’. (Steve Baker).

The idea that you can only look after one of the economy or people’s health is a myth.

                            The UK has done neither.

As ever with these things, we should be allowed to see the evidence on which Johnson has made the decision that people in England should be allowed to enjoy a night like NYE unencumbered because even to a layperson like me, it seems like madness. We’ll have no teachers or health workers come the second week in January.

Im not putting politics first im agreeing with Whitty etc.

You said "seen through Whitty Van Tam" you are talking as if they are stupid they are EXPERTS not idiots watching youtube videos ranting on facebook.

SA news is positive but as Whitty said its new and it is not their winter which is why we need to be careful.

                              • BFP the evidence is readily available from stats given by the South African's. This Omicron variant is much milder than previous ones which is what you expect from a virus. There do seem to be people out there happy to revel in lockdowns and restrictions. Drakeford and Sturgeon to name but two.
