I bet though that it was closer than many thought it might be.

As a public speaker, Truss is a wooden puppet and couldn't inspire a class of 5 year olds.
She's possibly still running on a clockwork wind up mechanism. Let's hope that no-one overwinds her as I fear they did with BoJo.

I don't think I've ever been so fearful for the future of UK politics. It's not been good for decades ( I wonder when we can last say it was good - regardless of persuasion?) and it's hard to see it getting better in the foreseeable future. Though I'm naturally right of centre it is a massive shame that we never saw what John Smith might have achieved.

      Yeah, understandable.
But politics isn't just parties, leaders, ministers, MPs. Someone saying 'I hate politics' or 'I give up' is taking a political stance themselves in leaving the field clear for others to keep or seize power. The way I see it, politics is just life - do you have any power to pursue your interests or not? Hope lies with the younger generations, maybe they'll fight back and not let the rich and powerful walk all over them.

You can see this Govt being so unpopular, hanging on for the next two years, and the state of the nation so grim, that 2024 might bring a cathartic moment politics-wise.

        Me too, after reading this:

We’re at five MPs who’ve now gone into Number 10 Downing Street. What do they all have in common? They all backed Liz Truss for leader. As we've noted, prominent Sunak backers Dominic Raab, Grant Shapps and Steve Barclay have all been sacked. Will any of Rishi Sunak supporters find themselves in Liz Truss’s cabinet? If not, the process of healing the party after a bruising leadership contest could prove more difficult.

So it looks like she's copying Johnson and surrounding herself with a bunch of toadying sycophants. Great for her position, but a slap in the face for the country if she selects the cabinet from the minority who supported her. That leaves the future of UK politics in a desperate place.

For the first time in my life, I hope we get a proper coalition government next time. I never previously liked the idea because it all seemed a bit wishy-washy, but now I think it's preferable to the current lot who put their personal career at the top of the list, and the needs of the country closer to the bottom of the list.

        • Interesting cabinet being formed.

Criteria for being in should be best person for the job. Unsurprisingly it's Truss's mates who supported her.

The Greens, SNP, Plaid, the Lib Dems even, will be ready. But don't you think it'll take two elections for the penny to drop for Starmar and co?

Agree with you on the way Truss has started. But toady sycophants was always going to be her direction. It'll be a slap in the face for the county every day for the next two years. She's so far gone, she can't even lie about 'levelling up' or give lip service to easing people's plight. She starts as hated, that's only going to spread and intensify.

The best response to that poll I've seen......

Exactly, might as well post a picture of Thérèse Coffey's lunch up there as opposed the results of this poll, we would learn more.

Yeah J.L.Partners for the UKonward think tank. Hurrah!
And lapped up by sickos who enjoy thinking young people would prefer dictatorship to democracy. A Therese Coffey lap dance for the lot of them

Anyway, at least it changes the subject away from Liz Truss as PM for a minute

                          • As 53% of voting aged people under 25 decided not to take part in the democratic process in 2019 and with democracy taking us out of the less democratic EU (the young overwhelmingly supporting remain), I suspect those figures are probably not too far wide of the mark. People thinking for themselves and expressing their own opinion makes a lot of young people feel "unsafe" these days.

There's so much wrong with that, but if it pleases you to think young people are budding dictator fodder then you go ahead and indulge yourself

Time will tell, I'd obviously much rather that poll be wrong, but it sees pretty self evident that's the direction we're heading unless you've had your head buried in the sand for the past few years.
