Why didn't Blair do it in the 90s instead of carrying on shutting pits?Originally posted by LaxtonLad View PostThe future has to be nuclear power whose only drawback is the disposal of the radioactive waste, not a problem if it's shot out into the cosmic void, a one -way trip to Jupiter? Or Australia? It's not beyond the possibility of future science finding a way to make it useful or at least neutral, not that it would matter if it was Australia, or the USA.
There's no pollution, it's cleaner, a lower cost of production and safer than any alternative. We could have led the world if we had started it in the early 199o's when Maggie shut the pits.

This country has had an ambivolent attitude and approach to nuclear since the 1950's. Instead of building on the expertise we again showed ourselves to be leaders in the creation of technology and short sighted idiots in taking advantage of it, much as we found ourselves with football (thought I'd throw that in seeing as this is footymad). Other nations have a longer term view in their planning of major infrastructure whether it be power stations, railways, roads and not doubt other facilities. Maggie of course, in her desire to balance the books (short termism) took the route of the dash for gas. And like coal, it one day would run out or become undesirable.Originally posted by LaxtonLad View PostThe future has to be nuclear power whose only drawback is the disposal of the radioactive waste, not a problem if it's shot out into the cosmic void, a one -way trip to Jupiter? So as I write our own nuclear is providing just under 10% of our requirements, wind less than 1%, no solar of course, CCGT (Gas turbine) 57%, Biomass (not green) ~5% and then another 5% imported from the excess nuclear from France and 3% from excess Norwegian hydro. A few other bits. In my view our energy security is pretty poor.

It's only day 3 of the Trump presidency and you are already searching the internet to find someone defending a Nazi salute.Originally posted by Med Pie View Post
You should have gone for the Lullapie anecdote of meeting someone on your travels who absolutely backs up your worldview.

The lefty media fortunately left out his final words - "from my heart to you" - end of fake news.Originally posted by slack_pie View PostI'm not defending the gesture at all. It's ridiculous. But from what I've seen of Musk, I think it's more likely a calculated way to stir up rage on the left and get a reaction for his own amusement than a signal of murderous intent.
I agree that it's objectively sinister, but I don't think Musk is actually trying to tell the world he's a Nazi. Musk clearly likes to push buttons. He likes controversial jokes that rock the boat. That's why he's so into Dogecoin - not because it has a real use case or potential, but because he finds it funny. And part of the reason he finds it funny is because other people don't find it funny at all. At least that's how it looks to me.

The nuclear discussion is huge in Australia at the moment. With the high possibility of the Australian Labor Party getting trounced in the election, Peter Dutton, leader of the opposition, is openly discussing nuclear power.Originally posted by i961pie View PostWhy didn't Blair do it in the 90s instead of carrying on shutting pits?
There is something in the Australian Constitution that prevents nuclear power being brought in, so a referendum is likely.
The irony is that that Australia is the biggest Uranium exporter in the world. It also exports a huge amount of coal - mainly to Third World nations, so we all know how environmentally sensitively that will be used.
Nuclear power is the ONLY way forward to reduce emissions - but the left have the same old excuses. Too dangerous, too expensive.
However, we are slowly learning that letting ideologists control policy creates the opposite effect to what is needed to be done.
Chris Kenny from Sky News Australia did this documentary a while back. A very interesting watch.

Here is is in full from the Telegraph youtube. Admittedly quite a far left source for you and Med Pie but you may need to hold your nose.
Definitely not a Nazi salute.

I do agree that it is a "my heart to you" gesture from a person that appears to have a lack of social skills.Originally posted by Mapperleypie View PostHere is is in full from the Telegraph youtube. Admittedly quite a far left source for you and Med Pie but you may need to hold your nose.

That's how far left people's views have moved. I am centre-right with my political views, but others are that far left, I look like a fascist to them.Originally posted by Mapperleypie View PostHere is is in full from the Telegraph youtube. I'm into immigration, social welfare and a robust national health service. They are non-negotiable.
Just to make that clear

A man whos repeatedly expressed support for the far right in Germany of all places performing a Nazi salute at the swearing in off his boss/puppet and theres still a debate about whether he meant it, didnt mean it, is autistic, was joking, was winding the lefties up, etc etc.Originally posted by Mapperleypie View PostIf he had not constantly supported white supremacist causes that might be a reasonable conclusion.
Presumably to clear up any misunderstanding President Rapist will disassociate himself from Musk and apologise for offence caused? No, probably not.

The original article I wrote about from the BBC didn't have his final message mentioned - hence my comment. It appears to have been edited since and added in along with a comment from a Musk supporter who says it was more like a Roman salute.Originally posted by SwalePie View PostI think you'll find this particular lefty medium used it as the start of their third paragraph.

Perhaps that's how the BBC works, they post something initially that is defamatory or inflammatory and then amend the article later to negate any claim of biasedness.
I'll post anything like that as a photo next time and not rely on links.
