Very seldom have we lost by more than an odd goal when playing against top level opposition, a level above Sheff U tied are now at ? All the great FA cup ties in the sixties never resulted in any defeat anywhere near this level, the only big defeat we have suffered in many years was against Man City a few years ago. These defeats leave a deep Scar and will shake confidence to the bones ! Next weeks match against lower opposition will be crucial in any recovery and will start to offer the direction we are travelling in ?
Appreciate where you're coming from. 4-0 was enough to wrap up Evans, and 5-0 did the trick for Taylor and (a pair of them) for Richardson. It was only a friendly though, and the gulf between us is greater than it was when we took those 4 and 5 nil thumpings in league games. Absolutely no suggestion from me that we're not still short (I've commented as much, particularly around the defence), or that we don't lack firepower (I've also said that Nombe is not a natural finisher, and Hugill - despite the recent uptick in people taking to him - is a waste of space, but I'm happy to reserve judgment until at least after we play Port Vale. I think we'll be an improved side by the end of the season (from last season, not just today obviously), and I think we'll see a steady progression through the term. Saturday won't hurt our lads much, I'm confident of that. It'll be well forgotten by the time we hit August.

I there some form of mismanagement here in deciding to have a friendly v Sheffield United?

It was always going to be a one way street.

I've just watched Matt's statement......''I'm happy with some of the players I've got''.......shame he can't say who he's not pleased who he's got.

Makes you wonder if he's not tried to offload anymore players.
