Trouble is refs take the easy option by giving a foul every time a player goes to ground instead of making a judgment. They no longer blow for fouls they blow for going to ground however minimal or none existent the touch. Even in our games there must be a dozen free kicks a game that arent fouls.
It isnt helped by pundits saying he felt a touch hes entitled to go down. In my opinion you are entitled to go down if he knocked you down.
I agree with your view on penalising the play acting even for fouls. No one genuinely injured ever performed a gold medal gymnastics routine on the floor, thats always simulation and its also trying to get a fellow professional sent off.
To eradicate it you would need refs to take the opposite stance, let more fouls go, penalise simulation, potentially make the wrong calls if they missed a slight foul, and possibly ruin a whole season to get the mentality change but it would be worth it. The governing bodies wont go for it though because they think stopping fouls equals more goals and can?t see that football is looking more and more like 1980s wrestling with the acting.
The big thing for me is that if this cheating stops the refereeing should instantly get better because they don?t get conned all the time.
