  • Our Beloved Dog Rosie

I note that many people aren?t dog lovers, but to those I just say, please allow me to express what our four legged friends mean to me.

Yesterday we had to say goodbye to our wonderful Shih tzu Rosie. She was 11 years old.
We originally got Rosie just before Christmas 2014 at 12 weeks old as a companion for our other Shih Tzu Alfie who is a year older and they are very different in their nature but both of wonderful temperament.
Alfie is a quiet lad and loves nothing better than a nice little walk and his ball.

Rosie was a real character, the Minnie the Minx but certainly not in a bad way, she was always checking on you and took an interest, but she loved her food. She was beautiful inside and out. Our little brown eyed girl. Just a couple of weeks ago we noticed a growth on the right side of her stomach. We took her to the vets and she immediately had some blood tests and an ultrasound sound scan.
Unfortunately it turned out to be an inoperable tumour which was invading other tissue and it turned our world upside down.
We brought her home and spent the next 10 wonderful days with her. She was eating right up until Monday evening, but when she refused her cooked chicken, we knew it was time to let her go.

We are heartbroken and Alfie is missing her too. In less than 2,weeks our world has changed from positivity to despair. I know there are a lot of things going on in the world and also that dogs lifespans are short, but the absolute pleasure and unconditional love they have given, makes such a loss very hard to bear.

To all dog lovers out there please give them a big hug and tell them you love them.

    All the best everyone.

Really sorry for your loss. Animals are part of the family and we have lost pets ourselves. You/we have wonderful memories of our pets. Easy to say but know what you are going through. RIP Rosie.

It’s hard to lose a dog or any other animal for that matter. The worstestist job in the world must be a vet! Having to put down pets can’t be easy. We had one of our dogs put down last year. He was 14 so had a good innings.
He was one of the best catchers of moles the world had ever seen and often bright them to see us.
Unfortunately he became ill and lost coordination very quickly and I comforted him as he went to sleep.
We have another dog and she’s 16 soon. You would think that she would be tired and often acts that way. She has pour sight and hasn’t heard a word I have ever said! Especially yesterday when she bolted and got home before me on our daily walk!
She is crackers and snores as much as the wife! I found her in a cardboard box under the scaffolding I was working on one morning.

It is going to be a sad day when she goes. It is strange but dogs like kids bring people together. I have met a lot of people through walking the dogs which is handy.

A local cat had adopted us now and the two of them sleep together in a non ***ual way!

Would I get another when she goes? Not a chance! But I have enjoyed the two we have had!

Keep a close eye on Alfie mate. When we lost our Murphy to cancer a few years ago, his buddy Mack missed him so much. He became really ill and it was only because the vet that put Murphy to sleep remembered us he suggested anti depressants rather than other medication which thankfully sorted him out. God bless.

So sorry to hear about your loss. When we lost our English bull terrier 6 years ago we were devastated as it happened so fast. Took us 2 1/2 years before we were ready to rescue again. Remember the good times, they leave lasting impressions on your heart and the unconditional love they give. We don?t have children, but all our dogs we have had , have all been treated like they were our kids.

I can recommend old flats farm pet crematorium in Treeton. It?s run by an old school friend of mine, but they are amazing, gave us time with our dog in a beautiful room. No rush, no hard sell, but treated us and our beloved boy with dignity whilst we said our goodbyes.

Stay strong and remember all the happy times together.

Thank you for your very kind reactions. The messages are wonderful and very touching.

It?s been a very difficult couple of years but this one really hit both me and my wife like a train.

All your messages have affected me and my heart goes out to you all. Our 4 legged friends are truly remarkable companions.
It is very raw at the moment but we have some wonderful memories with Rosie & she will always be in our hearts.

Commiserations buddy, we have a 9yo German Shepherd (Holly), my first ever dog, and had her from 9 weeks old who has enhanced my retirement immeasurably. I cannot imagine your pain but you gave her a great life and got all that love back in spades...... Sleep well Rosie ❤️

Your first dog rodders but you chose well.
The sorrow is part of being a pet owner but sadly they never write a book about the pain we suffer when we loose our best friend.

Pets are family and the pain reflects this when they leave us. RIP Rosie

                          Thank you very much everyone.
Ronners your retirement comment really resonated to me. I retired 5 1/2 years ago at the start of COVID & that time has given me the chance to spend every single day with my wife + Alfie & Rosie. The unconditional love of a dog is a true gift and a privilege for me.
Alfie is still missing her. It?s still very raw for all of us. He is currently laying on Rosie?s rug instead of his own but he seems to be eating a little better now.
All the best everyone & thanks again. UTM

The if/when part of what happens as our Holly has got older has crossed my mind recently from time to time Cayton, but I try to focus on the here and now. My Mrs loves me and our Holly out of the way whilst she cleans the house and being a big dog she needs plenty of exercise so we are out and about around the wingfield/greasbro area of rotherham and round greasbro dam and I love being out with her.

I retired 4 years ago Nardendee, but my Mrs had retired 5 years before me and it was her idea to get a dog as she was on her own whilst I was at work. Since retiring myself, I have taken over completely the walking duties, which I love, and I have got to know lots of people from our area and beyond, who I see regularly on our walks, some with dogs but some who just go out for a walk every day, and some of the people I see regularly with their dogs, I don't know their names but I know their dogs name 🤣. Yes it's still raw for you all, and my thoughts are very much with you right now.
