Peanuts this time by our own comparison.
So, big or small, for some time spending wisely is obviously what is primarily gone. Look at all the Evans brought in. And being compounded.
Warne never spent a great deal, or just spent what was available.
So yeah, make the Lincoln example, fits.

It is also about what you do with the available funds, perhaps Lincoln did a better job than us, certainly looks that way. Remember our strategy that MH promoted and was taken by the board was buy young talented players and sell for a profit, he brought in Hall,Kaleta, Martha, Cover and Spence as his main attempts to do that, so let us see in the summer how many we sell at at what profit.....I wouldn't have Martha to come and play in the garden with my son

What we've give to be in the position Evans left us in! Mistake was rushing in with his replacement. Hamshaw he's got us more or less relegated to league 2. His 19 signings I'm struggling to think of a quarter of them that's what we needed.

A lot of stuff gets said about recruitment but I'd love to know what really happens with the process of signing a player.
I may be wrong but I have the impression that Rob Scott has a lot more influence than we realise over who comes in (possibly more than the manager) and doesn't TS have the final decision anyway?
I can imagine a scenario where the manager says he wants a midfielder, Rob Scott looks in his Filofax (ask your dad) and comes up with a couple of options. The manager says which one he prefers and TS says "isn't there anyone cheaper"?

You would hope it isn't like that but I bet you are not far wrong
