2 years ago the new manager changed the new manager of football role back to a head of scouting role.Originally posted by mellowmiller View PostInitial assessment of the football operations by Steve McClaren....."it's a mess."
The club went backwards!
The next manager said that it was a mess and he was given 3 years to sort it out.
A none excecutive board member joined and was working behind the schenes longer than people realise. He said it was a mess and supported the then manager to no aveil!
Another manager had an 8 week spell and said it was a mess! His contract wasn't renewed nor in his words was he told either way on the last day of the season whether it would be! a week later the club thanked him for his efforts!

There is one common denominator in all this.
I have an awful feeling that nothing will change because the financial implications are too great.
Oh and in case anyone was wondering, SM really has said "it's a mess!"

I have a friend whose son is a director at an EFL club (I'd rather not say which one) and apparently SM made the comment to him.Originally posted by Back of the net View PostWas it in an interview SM said it was a mess mellow I can?t find it ?
I realise people might be cynical about this but I'm confident about the accuracy of the information.
Let's face it, we should hardly be surprised given that a number of people who were here before SM have all said something similar.

A none executive board member so a free loader! Need someone who'll chuck some money at it.

I don't think McClaren will have come into the role with his eyes closed. Surely he would have an idea as to how things currently operate, what he'd like to change and what scope there is for making changes. So if he has described the situation as a mess then hopefully part of his agreed remit with Tony is to correct whatever that is.Originally posted by mellowmiller View PostI have a friend whose son is a director at an EFL club (I'd rather not say which one) and apparently SM made the comment to him.

Otherwise, what's the point of his role? SM is here to oversee football operations on and off the field. It would be an extremely weird decision to appoint a Head Of Football and not allow him to change whatever needs changing. If SM thinks something is a mess, he needs to do his job and fix it.

As time is ticking on as regards naming this new so called head coach/manager whatever you want to call it do you think it is naive of me to think that while all this going on will McLaren have made an actual start in trying to get some players in? Wishful thinking maybe but am I right in thinking this new guy Burchnall or whoever doesn’t have any say in signings and it is totally down to McLaren in which case he MAY be signing players as we speak, only thing Burchnall has to do is train them and pick the team if I have it correct
Like I say I am probably being naive to see us being proactive this early as regards new players but surely it’s not beyond all probability?

I don't think anyone would disagree with that but the "mess" is likely to be exactly the same as that described by people who were there before SM and the chairman and his acolytes elected to do nothing about it.Originally posted by Heliosphan78 View PostI don't think McClaren will have come into the role with his eyes closed. Does the fact that SM says it carry more weight?
If so, why?
Previous reluctance to address the "mess" by TS and the board is the reason we are back in the basement where he found us.
Did it really need the appointment of an ex England manager to confirm what was already known or is it just an expensive vanity project?

Does anyone remember this article from 10 YEARS AGO!!
Neil Warnock made it clear that a lot needed to be put right at Rotherham United. After his memorable 16-game stint to save the club from relegation in 2016, he opted not to extend his contract.
Warnock stated that he felt the club needed a manager who was willing to commit to a long-term project.
In outlining what the club required to move forward, he said:
Fix the infrastructure: He stressed the necessity of getting the club's day-to-day operations and foundations correct.
Consolidate and establish: He believed the primary goal for the subsequent few seasons should be establishing themselves as a steady Championship side rather than flirting with relegation.
Make key signings: He stated that with "one or two key signings," the club had the nucleus to build a comfortable position.
