  • Ahh. Saturday. The day where I have a proper drink.

After disposing of the body from the clubhouse into the local reservoir, I load up the bat carrier with Smirnoff and, lacking in room, just carry a couple of bats by hand. Here we go again.

At the Golfle court, I drain my first bottle and am about to first serve when I hear a disturbance in the hedgerow.

“Watch me Likk on Tv Spad”

    “Excuse me?”

“Watch out lecc cars on body fog toneet”

“Ah hello Crash. You’ve started early. I’ve clearly got some catching up to do”

“Reet town in freezer mac bah, mark my words Putin dee dar pang”.

“Exactly pal. Have a good day mate. Watch your step when you climb out of the hedge”.

Some people think that I have a drink problem. *******s to that. They should go see the Master.

So – on we go. Out comes the fat bat and I smash the ball straight down the Fair Lay for my first reasonable serve in a few days (0g 3 y). Happily I skip down the pitch twirling my second Smirny and doing the little Morecombe and Wise hop-skip. I am the business today.

“W@nker” calls out Lol from his Golf buggy. He accompanies his insult with a predictable coarse gesture before driving off guffawing. Typical Lol - always on my case. Has to use his buggy as he's too fat to walk.

Anyhoo – ignore him. I look se*y and that’s all that matters. I shuffle up for my follow up shot and thwack, off it goes into the distance, a brilliant shot! Surely? I squint hard through my standard haze into the distance but see no ball. Look left. Nope. Look right. Nada. Look down – there’s the fekker. It’s moved inexplicably barely 1 and a half Andy Roscoes forward from the shot. What the…? How the…? I am little better off from my great start (0g 3y)

Still a strong position though thanks to my s*xy first serve, so confident I can turn this round. Just need focus. After another half a bottle of focus, I used my old faithful slanty bat and once again, the ball majestically levitated onto the grassy green thing with flag, pulling close to hole in ground (1g 3 y).

Not wanting to lose my record of not getting lower than a Parp like those other losers, so I focused good and proper, so much so I threw up in by bat carrier. This is a magnificent day. Some young girls were walking by and stopped to watch with open mouths. Yes, Pup. You’ve still got it. I smiled, winked as off they went, a bit faster than I would have expected or liked.

Here goes. Distance to hole in ground approx. two Des Hazels and a crouching Paul Hurst, but in my breezy, smirnoffed fervour, I turned back to hole in ground and shot home through my legs without even looking. Straight in without kissing the lips. Third Parp in a row and plenty of day left to throw my shapes with my friends on the town centre benches.

      • Hole 8

Trees on the right, fields to the left

Monster drive, missing the ditch on the LHS and landing well up and central to the fairway 4y
5 iron and landed the ball just 3 ft from the pin 2g,2y
Birdie chance but no hit edge of the cup and lipped out to just 3" from the hole 4g
Easy tap in (with only letter that could fit) for a par 4 5g

Still 4 over for the round

Brin, I thought I would do a Leaderboard update at the half way mark - after the 9th hole tomorrow. I’m keeping a daily tally.

            • My third successive par 4 reflects slow and steady play; some inspired moments mixed with silly mistakes.

Goodish progress to the edge of the green on the 8th had me on 3y after two shots. However a not so gentle prod with a 6 iron had me overshoot the hole by eigh**** feet (2g 2y and a yellow letter not moved when it should have been.) Shot 4 turned out to be a very decent 18 foot put uphill with a slight sideways slope which clattered in very satisfactorily.

Overall a pretty successful hole for just about everybody with no less than four birdies (respect to CAM, Howdy, Ronners and Jake.) Also four pars for me, Raging, Bramley and Millertop. Only Brin played a bogey - possibly as a result of playing his hole late on the night before. Perhaps he couldn’t see too well with just a cheap Woolies torch to guide his game😄.

More good golfing descriptions - nicely mixed with Wordl terminology and some good humour. Raging’s drunken odyssey is extremely entertaining. I love the mixed sporting implements and Alice in Wonderland whimsy.

Final hole of the outward nine tomorrow (well, today for most of you) and, as mentioned elsewhere, a Leaderboard update once we’ve all played our shots.

CAM and I have been trying to guess which course Bramley is playing on. I’m going to suggest Sitwell Park next but presumably it could just as easily be St Andrew’s (probably not; too many trees) or Lytham St Anne’s.

Anybody else care to venture a guess?

              • Another Birdie 3 for me today (20th Nov)
courtesy of a stunning 2nd guess.

Hit the ball fairly well off the tee and again got to within 100 yds of the green but to the left of the fairway. (2y)
Wasnt sure whether to put a completely new shot in next to try and supplement what I had, or go for making one from the couple of letters I had, so decided to go for it and try and make one up using my sandwich, (that's what pup told me it was called but I later found out off Bramley it was sand wedge) and hit an absolute beauty to within 6 inches of the hole, which surprised the wife as she said she'd never associated myself and 6 inches in the same sentence before. (4g)
With what I had now it could only be one word so pup shouted to me, from his position of lying down in the bunker with his bottle of vodka, that I needed to use my splutter to snooker shot it into the hole and I duly obliged (5g)

                2y
                4g
                5g

Well done Howdy, i'm getting birdies now but not making any headway on the leader board due to you lot getting eagles and birdies.
                        3 again today.
Decent drive 250 yards to the right. 3y
                        Lovely 5 iron to within 10ft. 3g
Had to make a guess which way the borrow went, picked the right one. 5g

                        • Ah, Sunday. Day of communion with the Lord

“You useless waste of f*cking space” opened the Lord as I climbed out of the wheelbarrow in which I slept.

“Oh, morning Lord. How are you?”

“Get to f*ck you gormless, scrounging b@stard. Why don’t you go take in a load of ****ing homeless beggars if you feel that strongly about it?”

God often starts our gambits like this. Likes to get me on the backfoot.

“But didn’t the bible teach us that blessed is he who is generous to the poor?”

“F*ck that” quoth the Lord. “That was that gormless tw@t Jesus, cocking around virtue signalling to the masses. Complete d1ck and I’m done with him. Right, now get the f*ck out of my may, I’m serving off”.

I shake my aching head. The Lord has certainly changed since Howdy got to do the job.

Of course, he tees off and the ball and lo! And of course, as usual, the ball zings straight down the Fair Lay and into the hole in ground following a compound of impossible angles.

“Get the f*ck in there” bellows HowdyLordy “Kiss my f*cking ass” before vaporising in a golden cloud of his own self-importance.

Oh well, time to shake down and get on with the nonsense. I grab my bat carrier and wearily troop to the clubhouse to wash the sick off. In memory of our recently departed and brutally murdered legal eagle, I sink a handful of his beloved ‘pleb bitch’ cocktails and soon I was out there on the base line, fat bat in hand, super strength ciders in bag (taking it easy on the sabbath) and ready to blast off. Whoosh! Best shot for days, right down the Fair Lay and straight over the top of a bugg@r landing right on the edge of the grassy green thing with flag (2 g 1y)

Still a tall order to the hole in ground though. About 4 Paul Stancliffes I would say so I get the splutter (thanks Ron) and this time do another rinky dink show shot playing the ball behind my back to reach gently across the grassy green thing but lands just short of the hole. T!ts, so close to another buzzard but it wasn’t to be.(3 g 1y). I see Ronners about to serve off at the next hole but unfortunately for him HowdyLordy is raging at him for donating some soup to a food bank. Poor Ronners is in tears. He’s not that emotionally robust and our Lord loves preying on the meek.

Ah well, at least a bird will be an improvement on the last few days so I gently fart on the ball which pushes it reluctantly over the edge of the hole in ground for final conversion (5g) .

Time to go to church. Wetherspoons is just around the corner. Amen.

                          • Hole 9 (Not Phoenix or Sitwell, setting the bar far too high !)

Up hill to the green back towards the clubhouse
Fields to the left, line of trees on right separating the 9th and 1st fairway

Never made the Green in one on this one and ....................
Today no different. Pulled it right into the trees and rough 3y
Horrible lie. No option but the chip out sideways over the empty Vodka bottle (how did that get there ?) onto the fairway 2y, 1g
7 iron up to the green, landed on fringe but bu99€r rolled back down the slope 3g
Went for it with chip and run, thought it'd got it in but no, hit the flag landing 2ft from the pin 3g
Thought about the putt long and hard, then it hit me and straight in 5g

                            Bogie 5

                            5 over for the round

                            • Routine 4. Good drive, nice 2nd to 20 feet. Studied the putt for a minute then hit it well but came up 6" short. Should have listened to my Dad, "Never up never in". I think I'm -3 at the turn but will pop into the scorers tent for confirmation.

                              1g
