Yes, I was happy with it although after the 2nd guess it took me ages to actually find a word that would fit. That's always a good sign as it usually means there aren't many options. As everyone has reported and I'm not giving anything away my first two guesses were GRAIN and PULSE leading to the correct answer in 3.

Yep. With the R and the I eliminated, there was very little left. Off the top of my head I can only think of QUEUE as an alternative.
