Maybe, but it could be the result of the fact it was getting hit by millions of bot spams per day, many that they were having to clean up and this is a way of trying to prevent them?

Agreed. The use of Cloudfare is typical for sites that have been subject to DDOS attacks or excessive spamming.

If that's what it takes to sort things out then so be it.

Yes. Much better to have a reliable site that takes a bit of effort to get to than one that you can't get to 90% of the time as it's under a Denial of Service attack.
