Double Barrel, Thurcroft Hotel, Ivanhoe. All legendary Thurcroft pubs yet all now gone. But if folk stop using them, the doors close. Especially when most of them are worth much more to the breweries/managements companies as property to sell for redevelopment as shops, flats or Indian restaurants.

As for Spoons, can't fault them, they clearly have a formula that works and bucks the "no one uses pubs anymore" trend.

Cant understand anyone knocking Spoons, terrific value for money and a lot of them are stunning buildings that would probably be empty and dreilict now if not turned into pubs. Always go to the one in Leicster Square in London, mixed grill and a pint for about 13 quid in the centre of London, unbelievable!!

Rampant Grython was on of my favourite real ales, brewed at Wentworth, sorry to say the brewers ceased trading, so the Rampant Grython disapeared.
A 6.2% beer it was top notch.
Another beer I like is Timothy Taylors Landlord Bitter, had it a lot in the George & Dragon at Wentworth.

During the 1920s, people could relax here, amid potted palms, listening to music from a grand piano. In the 1930s, the Municipal Orchestra played every morning throughout the year, with free admission for the patients of the baths.
Forgot I'd been in that one.

Also like the one at Edinburgh Waverley railway station called the Booking Office, which is exactly what it used to be.

Thurcroft hotel especially also would have done with the Ivanoe when pit here shut hit their trade. Double barrel not so much. When the older drinkers had gone weren't many younger ones to replace them. Thurcroft hotel tap room loved being with the horseracing men great days. Was in the racing club there flat in the spring no big meetings jumps Autumn. Uttoxeter went a few times Wetherby Charlie Hall chase day also. Had to have your drinking boots on for back then!

Thurcroft Hotel had the best Sunday League Football team in Rotherham in the 90s.

Double Barrell Closed as a pub about 15 years ago - It was a steakhouse in 2013.

You never going into a Spoons is another reason people should go to them.

Was drinking beer in the Double barrel up to 5 years ago like I said a good pint of John Smith's in there as well. Had a few meals in there also be more expensive than spoons now even back then but better than most I've had since elsewhere.

They have some lovely ales on tap and the food isn?t all that bad but it?s definitely not fine dining!

It is a pleasure to pay less than a tenner for a pint!

ELK, i use the Lion in our village(Greasbro) and Magnet is the best seller but Lager also does well in warmer weather. Its not like the Magnet of our youth, but it's about as good as it gets. Many people still cant handle it, bad headaches next day.

                                I don't like John Smith's smooth beer.
Wetherspoons stopped selling this beer in their pubs sometime since.
They have replaced it with Worthingtons beer in all their pubs.
Talking to the manager of the Angel Wetherspoons pub in Whitby, when they changed beers.
He said the pub lost custom, because the regulars mainly drank John Smith's smooth.
But the pub gets full with holiday visitors, so gets the sales.
