Just tried looking the above up and whilst I couldn't find anything on insurances to cover the loss of players during pregnancy, I did find a few articles reporting enhanced sickness, injury and maternity benefits given to women players by the PFA in the 2022/23 season. The articles also mentioned several players who returned to resume their careers. Sadly, I'm too technologically inept to post the links though Dubs!😞

I am only asking out of curiosity and have no vested interest either way. But while a contract is a contract, this is women's football we are talking about and so there has to have different set ups to deal specifically with the women's game, I would have thought. Like boots have to be made with women in mind as do shirts as do shorts as clearly there is a difference.Originally posted by Omegstrat6 View PostMy understanding is that such a clause would be illegal Dubs. Of course it's a risk but remember, we all sign contracts for work whether for a fixed period or not but things change and just as shifts in markets and profits can lead to employers having the right to end or alter contracts so too do employees have their rights, including those regarding pregnancy and maternity as well as being able to exit their contract with notice.
I don't see how you could legally recoup the money you've paid another club for a player who subsequently gets pregnant but I also don't see why- in theory at least- clubs could not take out insurance against the risk of losing a player to pregnancy just as they do against injury.
Do you see my point.

PSOriginally posted by baggieal View PostTo be fair some of the football has been decent.
One thing that hugely stands out if you have children or footie mad daughters - fantastic tournament in a lovely country - both sets of supporters mixing in a carnival atmosphere fantastic for families - beer allowed in stadiums. This is how football should be!
You wouldn?t take don?s and daughters to mens football overseas unless your mental,
So many things right about girls football and regardless of negative responses - it?s massively going in the right direction.
+ granddaughters !!

I totally get where you are coming from Dubs and women do have different needs and present different challenges than men. Amongst several obvious 😁 and maybe not so obvious physical differences (though this may not be very PC to say in some quarters😀Originally posted by Dubbag View PostI am only asking out of curiosity and have no vested interest either way. is that women can get pregnant and men cant. The law recognizes such differences and tries to ensure that any adjustments are made to accommodate them but it also does not allow discrimination based on these differences alone. (The one exception is that HM Armed Forces are exempt from the disabled section of the Equalities Act regarding combat readiness of personnel)
I get the concern that a club may have spent £1m plus on a player who may then go off on maternity leave for a year but it isn't that different to the risk an employer takes in recruiting a woman in that same age bracket to a high salaried position.
I understand the potential financial risk, but equally understand that if the law was not there, many women would be unfairly discriminated against and not be allowed the opportunities to fulfil their potential.

I see it as perhaps contractually relevant in the modern womens game with the increase in money now been paid to top professional in the sport. Perhaps years a go when there was no money in the game for women it was irrelevant. But not so now. You could be right in that women in the game put their focus on their football for an amount of time and retire earlier then in the mens game.More data will be gathered I'm sure. Was reading recently about how more women in football seem to suffer the dreaded methartarsil foot injury, because the boot design was mainly designed for men. That is changing as many of the top football brands have a new market to address.Originally posted by Omegstrat6 View PostI totally get where you are coming from Dubs and women do have different needs and present different challenges than men. Interesting times....Spain are dominating this game....so they may very well lose after missing that penalty...

Yes, the boot issue is luckily recognised now but clearly there are physical differences between men and women which impact on how respective players must be managed using sports science. Aside from muscle mass and lung capacity differences, a major one for women footballers is their higher chance of ACL injuries. A wider pelvis means more pressure on the knees.Originally posted by Dubbag View PostI see it as perhaps contractually relevant in the modern womens game with the increase in money now been paid to top professional in the sport. As for the Spain game, Switzerland (one of the surprise successes of this year's Euro) certainly managed to frustrate Spain but quality will out and Spain now 2-0 up with two goals in just over as many mins. Hard to see England beating them if they can get past Italy

Certainly not the best I've seen Spain play but hats off to Switzerland for frustrating them for so long. That said, Spain did miss two penalties and can't see them not getting to the final.
France v Germany tomorrow evening which I think France will win to go through to the semi against Spain. I'm sadly working Tues evening so will miss the England v Italy match but have enjoyed the games I have seen so far

Ridiculous foul by Germany to both give away a penalty to France which let them go 1-0 up as well as reduce themselves to 10. To be fair, they have kept pushing and have just got a goal back through a nice bit of play but they've got a long way to go with a numerical disadvantage, especially against a team like France with the quality that they have. All a bit feisty at the moment!

Silly foul alright. I saw the other night one girl got a whack of braided hair right in the eyes. Could that be a peno I wonder?Originally posted by Omegstrat6 View PostRidiculous foul by Germany to both give away a penalty to France which let them go 1-0 up as well as reduce themselves to 10. Tbf, looking at the length of some of the braids on the French team, you have to wonder why they aren't deemed a H&S risk and haven't been asked either to shorten or tie up smaller. Think you might feel it if one whipped across your face!Originally posted by Dubbag View PostSilly foul alright. I saw the other night one girl got a whack of braided hair right in the eyes. Oh man, has the offside rule changed since I use to play. Good game all the same.Originally posted by Omegstrat6 View PostTbf, looking at the length of some of the braids on the French team, you have to wonder why they aren't deemed a H&S risk and haven't been asked either to shorten or tie up smaller.
