This would equate to £1.3 billion that financial year for housing alone making the total of £2.8 billion a year more likely than £5 billion. Still way too much of course.

As for Ratcliffe, I'm sure he paid a considerable amount of personal tax whilst he was in the UK and whilst his motives for moving to Monaco were likely varied I'm sure that, aside from climate/ culture, the over riding factor was tax saving. He has more than enough money himself though, so he could certainly still have afforded to remain in the UK. Entirely up to him where he choses to live or what he does with his money, but making some of those comments just seems a tad hypocritical given that his decision to move abroad was mostly driven by tax avoidance.
Evening Omeg and hope you do not get any stick tomorrow from the local lads 😭

This is what?s I found below but hey who knows as if it was zero it could boost our military spending to the promised 3.5% of GDP

Key Cost Estimates & Figures (2025)
Asylum System Total Cost: The entire asylum system was estimated to cost the UK around ?3 billion a year.
Asylum Accommodation (Hotels): The use of hotels to house asylum seekers was a major expense, costing approximately ?5.7 million per day in the 2024-2025 financial year.
Cost Per Illegal Immigrant: One estimate from the political party Reform UK in late 2025 suggested that each "illegal migrant" costs the taxpayer an average of ?41,000 a year.
Border & Enforcement Spending: The Home Office's budget for asylum, border, visa, and passport operations points to spending of "a little less than ?4 billion in 2024-25".

In terms of Ratcliffe his words were very clumsy but the overall content was correct. Benefits are out of control ( mainly whites ) and if it were me I would offer an individual a couple of jobs after perhaps 1 year in drawing benefits - any refusal would stop benefits. Even cleaning graffiti off walls or community work should be offered. I was brought up with the meaning of there?s no such thing has a free lunch.

As for Ratcliffe leaving the UK honestly - I think me or you would do the same out of principle. Perhaps tax rules should be changed or incentives given for billionaires to stay and invest.

Good luck tomorrow Omeg and you may escape any grief next season 😭😭

Evening Al, hope you are good. Yep, I'm sure that my Canary supporting colleagues won't waste the opportunity to gloat tomorrow but you're right, the bigger worry is for next season if we don't manage to stay up! 😞

They let Diane Abbott do the maths with an abacus for illegal migrants.

I don't know about that Matt, but I strongly suspect she had something to do with our summer recruitment drive. Something definitely didn't add up there 😉 .
