i loved you instruction for the owners ! i also disagree with your evaluation of the squad. yes we obviously need replacements but not major surgery.

Didzy leaving makes sense for both parties.

Our owners didn't want a 38-year-old tying up the wages of potentially three new signings, and rightly so.
Didzy didn't want to take another pay cut, especially after such a great season, and rightly so.

So a deal wasn't made. It's not what the fans want, but it makes sense.

Honestly, we should be building for the future. I love Didzy and thought he was outstanding, but for the reported ?5-6k per week we were paying him (no idea if that's true, but he was certainly our highest earner), we might even be able to tempt Langstaff back.

I hope he doesn't go to MKD as that would somewhat ruin his legacy, but it's up to him what he does. He gave it everything these last two years. Top pro, but it's time to move on.

On first hearing the news the immediate emotive fan element in me made it seem really disappointing news. Here we have one of our own who has had a great season who could have finished his career with us. In an ideal world it would have been fitting for Didzy to be part of a promotion winning side to league one. It wasn’t meant to be last season and it’s not meant to be. MK Dons seems obvious what with Crowley and Nemane and with Paul Warne connection but time will tell.

On reflection to give the new head coach as much support as possible then it seems sensible for both parties to look to the next couple of seasons.

As always the players and coaches leaving are only one half of the story. The second half is who comes in to replace them.

I can understand some peoples frustrations. When you compare the squad that finished the 23/24 campaign to what we currently have in the building we have lost Langstaff, Crowley, Nemane and now Didzy. Add to the list Abbott. That is five key players that have creativity, quality, pace and firepower.

We will need five to come in who have all the qualities those five had if we want to be automatic promotion contenders in my opinion. It seems like a clearing of the decks and a clean slate and a rebuilding when we add in a head coach and coaches.

A big couple of months awaits. As for Didzy it’s been a pleasure to watch a Nottingham boy and one of our own put in performances and have the quality. One of the best +35 players I’ve seen in a Notts shirt.

Hopefully over the next few weeks we will see a change of approach with signings. Instead of trying to find the next big thing or trying to resurrect an injured players career a few players signed that are proven and established at this level and the one above and maybe Didzy leaving wont be seen as such a big loss.
Lets see what Gagliardi can bring to the table.

I think there are lots of good reasons to let Didzy go but it still feels like we?ve missed an opportunity to get the best of both worlds - the owners have made a binary cost related decision. What they could have done is made him a player coach which arguably mitigates the wage issue by 50%. He?s a very clever footballer and excellent with the younger players by all accounts, and so I think we?ve not been very innovative around keeping an excellent talent on and off the field.

Agree with this. If we’d really wanted to keep Didzy (and if he’d wanted to stay), I’m sure we could have found a creative way to keep his footballing knowledge and talent in the building. We will only know in hindsight if this was the right move by the club.

We have to hope the new director of football hits the ground running and we get the head coach recruitment right, otherwise this could be a very painful season. Bring on the next football forum.

To be fair I don't think we know that they didn't make such an offer unless I've missed something. All we can assume is that the club offered what they thought the value would be and Didzy didn't agree. That's life. Until we know how that extra resource is used I don't think we can be downbeat. He was amazing last season but that is gone, who can say what this year would have brought. We may have regretted spending a big wage on someone in the recovery room.

Agreed, would hate to think we could not afford the next Crowley or Macca because the monies required were spent on a 38 year old, regardless of how good he was last season. At that age the recovery from any bad injury is so much more difficult too.

I have loved watching Didzy play over the last couple of seasons, and he has largely been really good. I also think over those two seasons we have not really come close to promotion because we keep getting overrun by teams with more running power, more energy and more pace.

Going to be a number of months before we know whether this was the right thing to do. But I can at least understand it.
