Thread: Williams is Favourite [New Head Coach speculation thread]

The “experienced” manger model didn’t work under the trew and hardy days, or ever considering we left the football league before the bros model so why would it now, since the bros have taken control we are going one way upwards, stop moaning and wait if you read things properly it appears it’s all done and dusted it’s either visa wait that takes at least 3 weeks for a manager or holidays

It worked for previous owners when they let the manager get on with things, it stopped working for previous owners when they started interfering.

In 6 years under the current owners we've only once finished where we should have done, 2nd to Wrexham in 2023. Every other season we've finished below at least one smaller club. We've not once overachieved and still yet to finish as high as Hardy did.

Pros and Cons for both systems but I would have thought that the happy medium would be manager (I refuses to call him/her coach!) states the type of player needed and the required attributes the player should have, HR gets on the case, HR notifies the manager of a shortlist of likely players and the manager makes the final decision (that's assuming the HR has applied any financial restrictions to his short list) HR then starts the recruiting process. That is probably what the current system is but without the critical selection made by the manager?

If I were a player, I'd find it more difficult to respect a manager (or head coach) who is clearly having to defer to some other member of staff sat in an office. It also must make some degree of difference to a player if he thinks the manager rated and wanted him in the first place, as opposed to having no say in the matter.

Agree entirely. This recruit by committee malarky may be cost efficient but, as you suggest, it reduces the managers status and authority somewhat.

I believe the head coach does have a say in the recruitment as he's the one that has to work with them day in day out. The recruitment team use the stats to find players that fit the playing style and suggest them....
That's if there's a coach actually in the building which there's not. It didn't work out too bad when we bought Langstaff while having no head coach.

Crucially you are forgetting that we appear to have got off the merry-go-round off looking like we're going to go bust at any minute. I no longer live in Nottingham so don't have the problem of my children not having any other choice than F***** but many on here would be forced into that if we were to carry on like we were. The Brothers have done that and they are building for success.

Everyone seemed to love the Brentford model until it meant (other people) not spending money like water and opting for this ridiculous sustainable success malarkey

Can?t say I agree, that?s the guy you have to respect and work for else you?re not getting picked and that?s ultimately the biggest thing for a footballer.
It?s worked for Liverpool, there are pluses and negatives but in my opinion and only my opinion I think it?s the right way to go as it?s the only way you?ll find consistency, just has to be the right consistency.

Name me one club our size that's gone bust in the last 50 years with supporters left with no option but to go and watch another team. It doesn't happen. Bury had averaged less than 4k for all but one season this century and went under in exceptional circumstances (now on their way back up).

The notion that we wouldn't have a club if it wasn't for the bros is BS. We were averaging 7k the season we went down, Either somebody else would have come in at the last minute (as is often the case to get the cheapest deal possible) or we would have gone into admin and got picked up for peanuts.

The current owners have got the extra ticket money coming in that previous owners didn't have (3-6k more people through the gate) and also the extra TV money thanks to the Covid boom across football. This is a long way away from begging for 8 through the gate (and getting 5.5k) whilst having to deal with the collapse of the ITV digital deal.

We?d have a club but let?s face it we?ve been a laughing stock the last 20 years with our near misses. My forest mates love reminding me of when they?ve put in the buckets for us at their games and that absolutely grates me.
The bros are doing everything mostly right but obviously need to up it a touch on the pitch as if they get that right too we will be looking like a real proper club on the up and I think we?d catch a wind going up through the leagues, easier said than done though.
