The fire had started during the crossing and people sitting in their cars at Port Askaig including myself, were surprised to see the Islay fire engine arrive at the pier with its blue lights flashing.
After the Calmac ferry the MV Finlaggan docked at the pier I noticed several vehicles had departed the ferry but then it was about another 20 minutes before the rest of the vehicles including the fire engine departed the ferry and drove up the hill at Port Askaig.
Prior to boarding the MV Finlaggan I asked one of the Calmac shore based staff what had happened and he replied that the cab of one of the HGV’s on the car deck had gone on fire but fortunately the fire had not spread to the trailer.
The MV Finlaggan departed from Port Askaig 30 minutes late and the captain of the ferry made a public announcement
apologising for the late departure of the ferry which had been due to a vehicle fire on the car deck.
Needless to say news of this fire on the MV Finlaggan has been suppressed by Scottish Government owned Transport Scotland and Calmac as they are not allowed to publicise bad news.
I've missed this type of post😁
