I remember proper means testing when my Mother (a single parent, sod all help for them in those days!) tried to claim dole when I was a kid (58/59 time). They sent her packing and then two blokes turned up at the house and rifled through every draw and cupboard in the place. Of course there are people that need that money and it's a disgrace that such a piffling total expenditure by a "caring" government should be stopped.
