We live very close to areas of huge and frequent forest fires, although thankfully historically not in much direct danger. Maybe UK based posters might not realize the full impact, but it's not only the areas in the direct path of the fires where people suffer badly, although their losses are so devastating, but for hundreds of miles around there is terrible air quality, often thick smoke and visible ash particles. The footprint of these disasters is huge, and large spaces like my gym has had to open its facilities by municipal decree to thousands of refugees from the worst impacted areas every year for the past four. We're happy to help, just to show the impact on so many people. To put it in some kind of context, a forest fire like this in London or Carlisle would make the air in Nottingham horrible and often dangerous to breathe for weeks. Although the sunsets are amazing [shrug]

at least the first post on this doesn't jump straight past the human cost to politicizing the issue, oh wait...
