Burnley FC, founded in1882, is owned by ALK Capital LLC, an American investment company, which acquired an 84% stake in Dec 2020. Alan Pace, the managing partner of ALK Capital is the chairman of the club. Several other individuals, including former NFL player J.J.Watt in 2023, have become minority owners.

The Burnley current gross debt is approx 112m pounds, which includes 92m in bank loans & 20m in factored debts. This is a significant increase from previous years, driven largely by new bank loans & ongoing repayments on an earlier acquisition loan, which the club has been making repayments on a 65m pound loan from MSD Holdings that was due in 2027 of which repayment & funding have been funded partly through player sales & cost cutting salaries.

The population of the Borough of Burnley was estimated to be 99,233 in mid-2024. The town began to develop in the early medieval period as a number of farming hamlets surrounded by manor houses & royal forests.
