F.a.o. Hotun, I know it's not Peter Madden because he's the only one from the names mentioned that I actually saw playing, plus he's got a different shaped (more rounded) face. I've also got pictures of him in my first attempt at keeping a scrap book on the Millers.
I am only 57 but the player is Albert Bennet....if only we had him now.
Went on to play for Newcastle...great player
I think he was our biggest sale at the time.
Zilzal is a great historian and let us know the details.
He was mentioned in Auf wiedersehen Pet.
I've now studied photos of all players mentioned and I'm now in total agreement with you (and others) who say it's Albert Bennet, Kempo.
And thanks to Zilzal for the info.
And yes, I also remember Oz mentioning Albert Bennet on Auf Wiedersehen Pet, ''Oh, what a centre forward HE was''
Just been into the Tourist Information shop in Rotherham, for reasons unconnected to the Millers. However I saw on the shelves a new "Pictorial history of Rotherham United" book. I had a quick skim through it and saw a 1959/60 team photo, with what was almost certainly our mystery man in the picture. Unfortunately there were no players names provided! However our mystery man was standing next to Roy Ironside, and looks an inch or two shorter than Roy....therefore it is NOT Peter Madden or Albert Bennett. I think that a young Peter Madden is on the back row of the photo, and it was taken before Albert Bennett signed for us anyway.
More evidence for Brian Jackson.
