Three question marks is pretty dramatic tbf
We promoted Taylor from within and he has worked with McKinnon for more than a decade the manager trusts his judgement 100% and according to him his chief of football operations or whatever his title is has been scouring the length and breadth of the country looking at players for months.
I ask the question again,if Darren has been sourcing players for months why do we need to bring in trialists?,surely to phuck there is a dossier on McKinnon's desk packed full of available players who fit the criteria and football philosophy of both McKinnon and Taylor. How many trialists are Celtic,Sevco,Hearts,Hibs,Aberdeen etc etc etc bringing in this summer?,phucking none they sign players who they have been tracking for months,FACT.
By the way John Robertson the ICT manager was supposed to be in the Radio Scotland studio yesterday but they had to interview him by phone instead because he was down in England trying to sign players who he has kept on the radar even though he has been out of the game for years.
Where were United yesterday?at Cumbernauld watching the 30 players on the soccer scrapheap playing a trial match arranged by the PFA,what the phuck are we daen there when Darren has been working like phuck for months?.Too many people on here cannie see the woods for the trees again. It reminds me so much of the summer of 15 its scary honestly.
Difference being mate, those teams u mentioned aren't scraping around the bargain basement trying to find the best of the worst who are out of contract, who possibly haven't even being playing regularly for their club & who are available for less than a grand a week. We are. If bringing in the odd trialist, who may not have been a first choice for his previous club, means we get a look at them then so be it. I'd rather that than sign some **** off a YouTube video. It would be great to be in a commanding position like this teams u mentioned, being able to pay £2K-£20K a week but unfortunately we can't and u have to deal with that FACT I'm afraid. Nadir, GMS, Buaben & Gomis were all trialists. I fail to see what the problem is with having a look at certain guys before we bring them on board.
Good for him. Doesn't mean to say these players are any good does it? They could be utter ****e. For all we know Taylor may have a list of 20 players on McKinnons desk. We know nothing. All we know is we've signed Keatings, King and Scobbie, 3 players all capable of playing a level above where we are atm. None of us knew anything about these players signing or how we came about them before they signed.
I agree about the odd trialist but we are being linked with half a dozen of them so i will ask the question again, has Taylor been working like phuck for months like Ray say's he has?,and if so where are the fruits of his labour.?We are still a big club despite the damage done by Thompson and we should be able to assemble a squad capable of winning the Championship.
I know its still early but at the moment i think we are miles away from promotion,i know DFC went 800K over budget to get up and i'm pretty sure Hibs went over budget last season we need tried and trusted players at this level and its up to McKinnon and Thompson to deliver or we will be in oblivion until new owners take over.
Where are the fruits of his labour? Are u completetly forgetting the fact we've signed Keatings, King and Scobbie? All players scouted by Taylor. He watched Scobbie 5 times. He's been watching European games, English games. He's given the manager names but ultimately the manager wants to see these players and if they are foreign then it simply HAS to be a trial. The difference (hopefully) with these triaists is that they have been watched in matches by someone at the club as opposed to 'recommended' by an old contact abroad but having never actually been seen in a game. Give it time. The manager is back from his holday tomorrow as will most players be. There is a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the players Taylor has given to McKinnon with them hoping to have 3 signed by the start of pre-season.

TheArab,
We have 15 players that have departed and ok they are not all first team players, but we only have 3 new players that barely gives us a team. To add to that, 2 others are coming back off their holiday with offers on the table(Flood/Murdoch), another that we dont want(Donaldson), and another wants away(Fraser)! Who can say they will all be here in 10 days time?
I have heard mention of as little as 3 new players still to come, but as much as 11 targets. For me to be happy, i would like to see 6 new players, Goalkeeper, Defender, 2 midfielders and 2 attackers in this week, and another couple of players before the cup starts. If we dont get that, it will show the clubs ambition for what it is!
i still think there is enough time to made the signings we are required. its obvious that taylor has been working hard to get targets identified. Alot of players will still on holiday and coming back this week. this is the last week you would imagine for signings to be made before pre season starts. with Ray meant to be coming back tomorrow, i would be expecting signings to be made later in the week (hopefully 2/3/4). i would much rather we spent time assessing targets than jumping in and signing guys off youtube clips or agents recommendations. ideally youd want the majority of the squad to be in place before preseason begins but that sometimes doesnt happen.
i can guarantee at least 2 signings will be made before preseason begins (and not renewals) frustrating as things are, patience is required
