I don’t disagree with much of that second paragraph Andy, nor with Parky and mista’s sentiments. Sometimes though people have to push hard if they are going to bring about change.
We’re not a million miles away from the ‘one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter’ argument. Without Mandela and the ANC behaving in a way which many found reprehensible forty or fifty years ago might we not still have Apartheid and without the Suffragettes causing the outrage they did...would women not still be second class citizens?
Ironic...maybe. Ridiculous...certainly. I agree...but the fact that hetero***ual couples have been denied a right that same *** couples have won just shows how ludicrous the law can be. It isn’t the fault of those who have fought for the right to have ‘same ***’ civil partnerships.
By coincidence I’m in the USA at the moment and although I have no direct interest in Gay rights it is interesting that yesterday’s resignation, effectively allowing Trump his next ‘pick’ of a Supreme Court Judge, appears to be striking genuine fear into those who favour same *** civil partnerships. A
Incidentally, if we think of the UK as being a ‘divided nation’ you should experience what’s happening over here...Trump is turning things into a hate filled soap opera...when his ‘officials’ aren’t ‘stealing’ children that is...scary...oops there’s some big guys in suits at the doo...........

Swaley never makes ‘mischief’...much too serious and malicious. That’s more of a Roger Ramjet thing...wherever he is.
No idea what a ‘chi chi man’ is Parky, but I am not gay...as I’m sure my ex wife confirmed to you...although I would see no need for shame if I was.![]()
Yes there has to be a bit of serious 'push' to make progress against those who thrive on the status quo. But the scales now seem to be tipping too much the other way. The sentiment amongst (I use the word at risk) 'normal' people seems to be 'yes we get it, now PLEASE give it a rest for a while'.
I take your point...I honestly do, but you do your case no favours using the expression ‘normal people’.
What are ‘normal people’? The white hetero***ual majority? Those who benefit most from maintaining the status quo? Males who like football and beer?
I really don’t know...come to think of it...you (I think) and I tick all of those boxes above and I consider myself pretty ‘normal’ but that doesn’t mean I consider gay people to be abnormal in some way. In the minority...yes...probably by definition...and I can understand the majority thinking in the way you suggest but I can also understand how those within the Gay/LGBT ‘community’ are reluctant to ‘drop their guard’ particularly given the increasing climate of bigotry which appears to exist on both sides of the Atlantic.
Check the definition of 'normal'. It doesn't mean gay folk are 'subnormal' or 'abnormal', but if you pick on any single person the world over they will 'normally' be hetero. And incidentally, that should mean that when I switch on the TV I should 'normally' be met with a non-LGBT feature, and yet increasingly that's not the case.
Yes its true that the BBC is especially fond in recent times to wave the gay card even when it's not needed.
I listen to the World Sevice out here and every week, sometimes as common as a majority of days, there will be a program or interview with a gay person talking about their issues.
I'm not saying they don't have issues or problems depending on where in the world they may be, but is it such a commonplace daily issue that needs to be constantly highlighted?
Even with the WC going next to Qatar. Why bring this up? How many gays are going there, even those who might, are they going there for a romp or watch footy?
It's not the BBC's role to fight for gay rights the world over.
