From the Gov website. Headed people not eligible to vote in UK General Elections:

EU Citizens (other than UK, Rep of Ireland, Malta and Cyprus).

So you are right. The Eastern Europeans didnt vote for the Brexit party or any other party.

Sadly, like most groups on the poverty line, Muslims are not very politically active. But I guess one barrier to a populist party with much anti immigrant baggage, is that they will not attract many voters from UK ethnic minority citizens.

Guess you'll just have to live with that fact. Other parties will do well to make these UK citizens more active politically. If the Brexit Party, or any other alienates them as part of their policy outlook, then of course you will lose the votes large scale within their communities.

But don't kid yourself. The vast majority of the 10,000 people who turned up and voted for Labour are those that are sick of the decline of their town and want to action against that, and don't believe that the Brexit policies, such as they are, will deal with that decline. And this vast majority are white British.

But I guess you'll just continue believing what you want to believe and repeating the line from the Mail etc. But evidence seems to indicate that the people that you thought were coming with you are not doing so in numbers that you need to achieve your 'goals'.

Didn't expect the brexit party to deffinetly win but thought they might. They came close so they will be disappointed they didn't win. But for a political party that been going for a couple of months they are doing OK. Time will tell.

The brexit party need to say what will be in their manifesto. They stand for getting out of the EU but what else.

Are you really holding the Labour party up after less than a 700 vote win? The lowest ever vote win by either the of the two big parties in the history of Peterborough.

I would suggest you take notice of this graphic and start worrying if you think this is any type of victory for Remaining in the EU.

And if you want to apply the same logic that remainers have been using of adding up all the remain vote parties you still come up short. OH DEAR!!!!!!!

As I said Big Lad, this vote gives Labour nothing to be complacent about and I still think they need a Brexit policy change. But I think it shows the limits of the Brexit Party in that they couldn't win in a 60+% Leave town that many of us thought were going to be Brexit wins. I think that every person that could be persuaded to vote for a No Deal scenario (as that is the only Brexit Party policy) turned out and voted in this strong leave town, and they still lost to a Party that is pulling in different directions.

But absolutely no triumph for Labour itself other than the message that the **** that the town is in is down to economic choice, not migration, got through to enough voters to defeat the Brexit Party. Credit to the campaigners on the streets for that.

I'm not relating my post in any way to supporting Remain. That wasn't the point. My point is simply the above. That's all. If you wanted to add up the votes on Leave v Remain parties (BP and UKIP v Lib Dem and Green) then you see much more for the hard leave stance in Peterborough. But this is one town, and would show very differently in a Remain voting town, let alone on the National level. But in this case, the fact that Labour and Conservatives together getting 17,700 votes shows that there is no appetite for a No deal.

You just do not get it do you! There has been no big shift to remain parties like you have been harping on about. I never expected the Brexit party to win this election in fact I expected them to finish 3rd behind both Labour and the Conservatives as the Brexit party were only campaigning on their leave the EU policy. If they had time to campaign on policies of what they would do for Peterborough as part of a government then I think they would have romped home by a large margin.

I think that this result will give people more confidence to vote Brexit party in any GE called in the next 12 months.

lol, you're so naive to have believed the hard Brexiteers that this would have happened.

27 countries vs 1. No deal is bad for everybody, but the impact of losing our free trade to 1/28th of the group is a lot more diluted than us losing 27/28 countries of the free market access we currently enjoy. Basic numbers. The average EU country does around 10% of it's trade with the UK, we do closer to 50% of ours with the EU - do you realise how many jobs that is!?

They always held all the cards in negotiations.

I've not seen any rational, reason based argument to the counter, just "muhhh, believe in Britain, muhhh Commonwealth, muhhh we won World war 2"

See it how you want. But your party’s message on wanting a No Deal is loud and clear and appealed to those hard core passionate voters that believe in that message. Their support has maxed out. I’m sure that whatever policies the BP put out in future showing “what they would do for Peterborough”, if falling in line with the last UKIP manifesto in 2014 will win very few labour and conservative voters. Unless you think there is a market in Peterborough for Farage’s selling off of the health service and us all switching to every man for himself private insurance? Evidence doesn’t look too good on that based on Trump’s comments this week.

If we’re looking at the voting numbers from the Remain v Leave parties point of view, then I’ll agree with you. The Remain cause can take no heart from the performance of the Lib Dems, although a +9 ain’t too bad in a strong Leave town. But I’ve never been a Remain campaigner and am looking at this from what the majority of people in this Leave town are telling us with their vote. This seems to be that the majority of people in the town don’t want to support Remain, but don’t want to leave with No Deal either. To say they support either on this evidence is a massive stretch isn’t it?

But very much looking forward to the BP manifesto. It can only harm them further.

What a bizarre comment. British citizens are equally entitled to vote whether they be Muslim, Christian, Atheist or Telly tubby.

A statement about as meaningful as "the Labour vote just saved them".
