This is what the EU do to countries in trouble.
The Dublin III regulation, which applies to everyone in the EU. This regulation holds that refugees are the responsibility of the country where they first land. This means there is a disproportionate impact on Italy because of the international norm that requires ships rescuing refugees from the sea to land them at the nearest safe port, which in practice means Italian cities.
Until recently, most refugees could move on to northern Europe, where they wanted to go. But since September 2015, both France and Austria have closed their borders, and rescued migrants have been stuck in Italy. This situation has been not only unfair but also financially very burdensome at a time when Italy was lagging behind most other European countries economically.
Do the EU play fair to countries that are already in financial trouble as Italy was because of corrupt government back in the 80.s and to this day are still trying to come to terms with that? NO they do not, what they do instead is make it harder for them to recover by forcing them to spend even more money on people who the EU have forced on them.
On top of all that the EU are now threatening them with a fine of 3bn Euro's for helping cause a big part of the burden suffered by Italy.
What a fantastic organisation the EU is eh!
We did not know what would happen if we left the EU that is correct but did we know that we did not know what would happen if we left the EU? YES WE DID KNOW THAT. We knew exactly the same amount of what would happen as the Remain voters knew about what would happen if we stayed in.
Oh I see. So when we tried to veto plans the EU wanted to implement where all members were needed to vote in favour and we did not vote for it and it still went through because of some law they put in to place after the vote which meant they could go ahead anyway was used to justify what they did is ok with you?
Look at all the fuss the Brexit party caused for turning their back on the EU anthem when a vote a couple of years earlier failed to back a EU anthem and no other vote has been taken about an anthem since that failed vote. The rulers of the EU never ever lose a vote because one way or another they always make sure they win.
The army of the EU is on its way mate dont you worry about that.
Three good reasons why we should be rid of this corrupt EU.The newly elected leaders ,done behind closed doors are Ursula von der Leyan, who wants an EU army,CharlesMichel who has mocked the UK for years and the notorious Christine Legard. She was a fore runner of the scaremongering project fear before the referendum. The same Ms.Legard who was involved in a financial scandel and convicted opf criminal negligence in 2016.Obviosly fits in nicely to become the European Bank president.UNBELIEVABLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Buried in this thread somewhere is my question of ‘What have the EU stopped us doing or imposed on us, in relation to democracy and sovereignty?’
I received no replies. I’m happy to take them now you mention it. Please list examples of either:
1. Policies or ideas that we would like to undertake ourselves that the EU will not allow us to
2. EU policies that have been imposed on us against our express will that interfere with our democracy of sovereignty
I know that there are very small, infrequent occasions where we have objected against an EU rule coming into play but these are minor and very rare exceptions. Happy to look at any that you can put forward?
I accept that it is not just about the economy – far from it. I completely respect that there are huge concerns about immigration, and especially integration. And I respect the initial vote, but the transition to a deal is paramount for me. For reasons that I have pointed out on here numerous times, in my opinion, leaving the EU will make no difference to those employers exploiting low skilled/low wage imported workforce, and as pointed out above, it will make no difference to what we can and can’t do with our democracy and sovereignty. The only thing that is likely to change, based on reading economic forecasts from Remain and Leave based sources, is that we will suffer an economic downturn. So to limit this, I am happy to leave with a deal to limit the economic downturn.
As also pointed out on here many times, I am no fan of the EU and would be happy to leave with a deal that maintains the main purpose of why it was set up, a common market. I would very much like to stop employers exploiting low wage migrants. But what is the use of gaining this potential power when we don’t even use the powers that we do have with immigration from the rest of the world? There has to be political will, and as far as stopping employers exploiting migrant workers, there is no political will. It’s just an illusion that has been/ is being cynically used to get Leave support. But evidence to propose its take over as a ‘far right’ organisation is as few and far between as the evidence that there is going to be a EU army that we are forced into joining.
