I don't for 1 minute believe that Italy has had more deaths from the virus than China.

Country is a rather meaningless metric as they're just man made lines that vary considerably and viruses don't adhere to anyway.

Italy is a country, but beyond the technical definition of what makes a country a more meaningful comparison might to be compare Europe to China and Italy to the Hubei province. They just happen to be the geographic areas within that locale that have been most hardest hit initially, while other pockets within the larger geographical area haven't.

We work in China and I travel out there a lot. I need accurate info to report back to my company. I try to search out WHO reports when I can, rather than rely newspapers. WHO have people on the ground in China so think they are more accurate than most.

There is more to survival rates in different parts of the world than trying to blame the Chinese for misreporting numbers (I posted on it a while back - will dig it out and repost for you).

This is what I posted 6th March....

"We are in danger of being misled on death rates by the figures coming out of China. Infection rates and mortality rates will not pan out the exact same way in every country.

The spread of the virus and death rate relate directly to government / population response and quality of medical care. The World Health Organisation did an extensive report into the China response. They conclude that lockdowns in hotspot areas was key to stop the spread - China were very quick to act. The excellent medical care they provided prevented a much higher death rate. The 2 together prevented a greater catastrophe.

China gave health care for Covid19 free to all its citizens (where they previously would pay for medical care) and built new specialist care centres with ventilators. They extended prescriptions to 3 months so patients were covered without needing to return to medical centres and, so, maybe infect others.

If other countries do not match this excellent response the outcome will be very different.

If countries are negligent, as, initially, in Italy or have a poor medical response, as in Iran, the problem can quickly run out of control."

The key in China was they contained the spread of the virus to 3 of the 34 provinces.

Im no stats expert but youre not saying this hit the whole of China.

Like I said Frog, China contained it to 3 of the 34 Provinces so it never went into the whole 1.4bn population.

My oldest son works for the emergency services at the Northern General Sheffield, he drives the emergency doctor to patients at home etc, this week he had to pick patients up in the emergency car, turned out they had the syptoms of the corona virus, which then over the next few days my son felt ill, so now he has had to self isolate at home.
He said the face masks they have been given to wear are like tissue paper, plus equipment not up to standard, why was he sent with a car to pick these people up, a least a ambulance would have ment the patients in the back, medical staff in the front away from them, he has been in near contact with the patients, so now the NHS has lost a important member of staff, in the fight against the disease.

Country's with. How do I say this with starting a political debate. Let's say urm. No can't say Communist state. Lets say lower STD of humanitarian rights. Will control the virus better as they don't think twice about locking down city's and sticking the army on the streets..
If you want to say what you want, when you want and where you want we will have to ride the virus train a little longer.

Due to it being a new virus the identification of the reason for the deaths would have been attributed to something else.
Only when the virus was identified and the doctor blew the whistle did they reluctantly contact the WHO.

The true figure will never be known in China as it will be everywhere else in the world.

Correct, China is one of the most secretive countries in the world with a human rights record that is awful (much of which is denied) most Chinese dissidents who have left the country tell of horrors.

Each to their own but IMO their figures are just fantasy
