NIce sarcasm Howdy. But you should really try it yourself.You know what my views on materialism are. When environmental armageddon is approaching as it appears to be doing (just like we were warned previously with this pandemic but ignored ) we will all have to adopt a simple lifestyle giving up our way of life a bit like now really. I just hope that this has taught us a lesson about global threats ie we need to be ready for them and need to work together to sort them. The problem with global warming though it might not just be a passing storm and self isolating will not make a haporth of difference. Can't help thinking this is the beginning of the end. Sobering thought innit?

Well, in Germany, they are keeping the number of deaths down , probably by faster decisive action, more testing, better funding for hospitals, having equipment quickly in place for dealing with the problem. There are probably other things too that our government needs to find out about. I don't think that it is sheer good luck

In Singapore they are keeping the death rates really low because they employ huge teams of virus detectives. If anyone is tested positive they subsequently investigate who they have come into contact with. Friends, family and work are obvious ones but they also look at which shops , restaurants, gyms etc they may have been in.
When they find out who they are likely to have infected they then force those people into isolation. I think it's similar to those images from China we saw with people getting dragged out of their houses but not quite as heavy handed

So we need 6x the number of hospital beds and workers to cope with a pandemic that comes along once in a lifetime?

If you have kids or grandkids maybe you need to act a bit more responsibly at least to protect them rather than thinking global warming is one big hoot...

I live in an earthquake zone where every year the people are told 'the big one is coming' (9.0+ magnitude) and are warned to have an emergency kit ready with enough food and water (plus other stuff) to survive for 3 weeks. What percentage of the population do you think heed this warning? Maybe these events will be a wake up to us all.

I hope so Camiller. Dunno what % but we take a big gamble with our lives if we are not prepared.We really need to heed the warnings. Already we are having problems with freak weather and this is only going to get worse. Even if we were to reduce carbon emissions to zero overnight it will take many years to reduce carbon levels to safer limits. so at the best weather patterns would probably take 100s of years to return to normal. And thats the good news...the bad news is truly frightening and probably what we deserve really if we all have the blase attitude of some on here.
