I started to dabble a few months ago, just the amount that I would usually save over a couple of months, as interest rates are rubbish for saving accounts. Use an app called Freetrade which is user friendly for beginners.

I set my own ethical rules - only invest in companies that I think make a positive contribution, and overcautious in making sure there’s nothing linked to my work (I promote certain technologies including to Government, all good stuff like electrical safety devices and low carbon heating but keep integrity by not investing in anything in those areas). And no fire selling when faeces starts to hit the fan as I don’t want to contribute to a recession.

I’ve bought one share in Zoom since this started, it’s a good product but of course I’m hoping the investment will pay off too. My way I don’t really see any difference to putting into a savings account, just more risky for me.

How long do you reckon before people’s Pension Funds start to recover.
Like plenty of others I took a hit in 2008 and this one is going the same way.
sorry for not responding earlier pal the commies did my box in yesterday

Frank, this is nothing like 2008 which was a financial crisis, there isnt a liquidity crisis. I have calls from all the major banks saying they are de-risking so stopping higher risk lending, reducing LTVs and even increasing rates. The new capital adequacy requirements set out after 2008 mean that banks are well placed to ride this out.

so to answer your question, when will the economy recover? according to many sources 2021 if we cpme out of this at the back end of this year, my opinion is that the markets will be erratic until Q4 this year, any bounce will happen within 6-9 months of relative normality. if you know people who are looking to retire i would look to defer pension drawdowns until at least the end of next year and be flexible if you are able.

    Thanks for the info gm.
My remarks " going the same way " was on a personal note. Lost 20% in 2008 and already lost 20% in the first two weeks. Realise it will recover just the timescale I'm dubious about.
May defer my drawdown for a while.

I understand your thinking, no one knows timescales how on earth could they? deferment is a good idea.
