It was given to them, in the same way as the bus pass. Television is more than the BBC.
At the end of your working life, when leaving the house is more difficult, the pensioner will watch more tv than anyone.
The license is to WATCH ANY LIVE BROADCAST! Yet the BBC take the frigging lot. In that situation, it is your choice removed. If I was over 75 I'd be going ballistic.
Can I just point out to you, that the out going "Lord " Hall, has his license paid for by the state!

Much as you don't like it, the BBC is in its death roll. The population has had enough.
The product it produces is dire, biased and patronising. Been going down hill for a long time. Long gone are the famous shows, now full of repeats, dancing bollox, cooking shows.
900 000 people have cancelled their license in the last year and that is just what they know off, by it being declared.
Figures from an Ofcom report from last August suggested the number of UK households signed up to the biggest streaming platforms – Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Now TV and Disney Life – stand at 13.3 million, or 47% of all households.
People are moving away from terrestial tv and the BBC has speeded up its own extinction.
The new guy knows this and is at the moment fire fighting, trying to save it.

On line and radio shows are talking about it everywhere. The momentum to undo it is huge, but the BBC won't publicly admit this.

Yeah but your kinda missing the point about funding an indpendent media, that isn't beholden to the State or particular interest groups!

Anyway it was the Government who scrapped free TV licences for the over 75's, sure they did it by sleight of hand by forcing the BBC to do it. But then if its a social service, it should be tax payers funding that not the BBC!

Mind you your too thick to see through whats happening here and responding to the dog whistle of right wing commentators who are absolutely not bothered about what you do or think as long as they can whip up your righteous indignation whatever the truth of the matter. You would ahve been a very good german during Hitlers rise to power, probable have been out on the streets helping his thugs!

So again you trip up with your analogy.
You seem to have adopted the current PM’s strategy of ignoring the (three) questions asked in order to answer a totally different one and the only possible ‘analogy’ I’ve made is in comparing the social function of Dickens with modern soap operas. Not sure how I’ve ‘tripped up’ on that one.

Mm I clearly didn't misunderstand you then! Your bothered about BAME representation? WHY FFS? I doubt you were bothered when there was none at all!

You do seem to like getting all worked up about non issues? Haven't you actually got a life?

OOOOOOH I love the Hitler analogy.
You see, what Hitlers cronies did, was manipulate the state with an ideology from their point of view only. You know, the same way as the left /Liberals are doing now, with BLM/BAME guilt trips. The same people who are censoring free speech and changing/re writing history to suit a rhetoric. The BBC is guilty of political bias/ historical shaming and blaming/ non reporting of full facts to manipulate.
So you can shove that up your rectum sunshine.

You see what this is all about, is the right to choose. You seem to think that having something "imposed " on anyone, is ok as long as it spouts the same crap running around in your head. If you love it so much, YOU pay for it.
If you don't like bitter, would you expect you lager to be more expensive to subsidise bitter drinkers?
The truth has many forms. Your truth is exactly why you love the BBC and the Gaurdian.
I chose not to buy the gaurdian, because its full of left wing pap. That's my choice. The BBC and lots of its presenters do the same, but you expect me to pay for it, even if I don't watch it? You can go forth and multiply.

I see the BBC are not alone when it comes to treatment of BAME employees
    I T N
CEO John Hardie said my aim is to see the BAME employees pay gap halved by 2022 .At present the pay gap is 16.1% pay and 66% on bonuses . This is totally unacceptable

I guess for the same reason that those that don’t have children still contribute towards the cost of schools, and those who don’t have health problems still pay into the NHS. They are both there for the greater good of society as, imo, is the existence of an independent and, despite your predictable protestations, impartial broadcasting service.

I caught a tiny bit of Kay Burley on Sky this afternoon. She absolutely slaughtered Hancock over the appointment of Tony Abbott...left him looking like a goldfish gasping for air. Are we to assume that Sky too are biased because they expose government hypocrisy and wrong doing?

    Rearrange please

Wall your against banging head a

You never answered my question, why should folks pay for the BBC when they only watch ITV/Sky etc?

Here's 5 reasons, if you want it, aren't bothered by this. You pay for it, like I 'm prepared to do for Sky.
But you seem to think, blackmail is fine.
It's been fun watching the same 3 who bang the Tories on every thread, so passionately scream to the BBC's defence. Here in lies the answer.

    Here's 5 anyway.
