As for Bilic, he’s probably forgot more about football than most of us on here know. In my humble opinion he’s been hung out to dry. If he’s any sense he’ll be engineering a sacking as it makes no sense to resign unless by mutual consent.

Since we lost Ashworth it went pear shaped as we could punch above our weight with him on board but we don’t have that luxury now. We’ve been found out for running a very tight shop which doesn’t hack it in the Premier League

The problems are much deeper and as with any big business you need clear leadership from the top and a committed workforce buying in to where you’re heading. I don’t see that at our club currently

You have hit the nail on the head Stripes! Lai and Dowling are rotten to the core and here lies the problem. I honestly think Bilic is engineering his own sacking so I predict we will get hammered on Tuesday and then can see players like Austin playing against the Vile and lose that one - he will be gone!!! To be fair - I would rather be paid off if I was Bilic with the lack of backing he’s had!!!

The decline will really start then!! Appointments like Bowyer or Appleton - don’t make me laugh!!! Do we honestly really think someone like Howe would come to West Brom? Not in a million!

I remember posting on here shortly after Lai took control of the Club, saying that there would no more good times for us until the wretched chinaman was gone. I still believe that to be the case, only more so.

Last season in the last few games Brunt was brought on to shore up the defence from a holding midfield position. This he did successfully with his calmness, control of a situation and passing ability. There is a strong possibility that he could have done the same job this season and then perhaps we would have won games that we drew and drew games that we lost. We didn't have to start him but use him in the same way. Ivanovic has hardly been a success and, in my opinion, keeping Brunt plus Hegazi would have made us a better side defensively.
I am not personally saying that Bilic should be sacked as he has been let down badly by Lai and the board but one win in the previous twelve games does make it difficult to justify keeping him on.
Chris Brunt adapted his game over time and was a useful servant to the club. However, his time has been and gone.

Your assertion that he came on to close games towards the end of the season is a little wide of the mark. He got 19 minutes against QPR in July and 18 minutes against Hull in May.

His appearance against Hull was his first game time since January, so we're talking 37 minutes across two games on the run in.

I'd also dispute his use as a DM given he couldn't tackle to any consistent degree. Good in possession with an eye for a pass yes. DM, no.

I agree that Hegazi is a miss but Brunt's only managed five starts in a division below and his cameos haven't set the world alight.

In short, I very much doubt that our former Captain would have made a positive contribution to our season. It was time for him to go and he went. That's about it really.

Your comments '68 are very valid but the main point I'm trying to make is that it makes no sense to get rid of one player because of his age and then to recruit an even older one.

I think age is a real factor when it comes to midfield. Playing at the back or up top can give you a breather at times but in the middle you are always in the thick of it.

Thank you for agreeing that I made a series of valid points. Meanwhile you appear to have completely overlooked the most salient one in response to your OP.

Brunt did not come on to shore up the defence from midfield on a number of occasions during the run in. He only made two appearances totalling a number of 37 minutes between January and the end of the post lockdown period.

As for age I couldn't care less how old a player is so long as he can do his job. Ivanovic has been chequered at best for me. As for Chris Brunt good servant though he was over a number of years I believe he'd have been next to useless in the DM role for us this season.

I too could not give a t oss how old a player is!! Sucks a bit that a 20 year old kid has more passion, energy, fight and eye for a pass than anyone in the same side! Perhaps Bilic should think about this and look at our own young kids and give them a chance too rather than staying loyal to players in the championship who clearly can’t cut it at this level!! Is Sawyers not embarrassed when he looks at Gallagher getting here, there and everywhere? Gallagher will go places but Sawyers is clearly an average championship player at best!

I think it might be yours? How can you say Vile are not the luckiest side in the division, you are only in the division because someone forgot to turn on goal line technology in the first game back after lockdown, hundreds of games and never an issue, till you lot turn up!! How’s that not incredible luck?

Loving all the salty tears about goal-line technology

Bar the miracle of auto resuscitation the rest of us are eagerly anticipating West Bromwich Albion's speedy return to the championship
