There was certainly a childlike and unholy scrabble to say ‘we were first’...even though the vaccine was developed in Germany and arrived from Belgium. You’d think there might be a reason why the other European countries have been more cautious...maybe.

Yes I do think. I think its a ****-hot effort to be honest, and my few close EU friends think the same. And its not about who developed it (hard working geniuses though they are) its about inspired product selection, procurement and (it looks like) deployment. In fact it COULD be a demonstration about where GB acting alone could be more nimble than EU

It COULD be...and I sincerely hope it is, but - Ram - it was developed in Europe by very clever German based scientists of Turkish origin.
I’m honestly not sure what to believe...we’ve been lied to about so many things so often. Maybe German/Turkish ingenuity, European facilities and British procurement and deployment makes a good combination. That’s what nation’s working together can achieve.

You could argue that British scientists at Oxford with British production facilities and British procurement of the Astra Zenica vaccine will still beat the whole of the bloated bureaucracy that is the EU.

What are they playing at, spreading the scrutiny around the EU, resulting in a disjointed effort held up by red tape? Then we'll get Poland or some other country vetoing the distribution of the vaccine because they're not getting their fair share quick enough.

I've not doubt many diversity drums can be beaten for all of the vaccines but that's to the credit of commercial or pseudo commercial research enterprises not governments, any downplaying of the procurement/approval/selection/deployment performance is just sour grapes

But will it OTR?

About 10 years ago, I had the flu jab, on the recommendation of my GP and my Cardiologist. Now, it may just be no more than coincidence but inside 2 days I had a cold which turned to flu, then to bronchitis and then double pneumonia. Sick as a dog for about 8 weeks and it took 6 months for me to get back to the physical state I had been in beforehand. I have declined my flu jab every year since and, in all that time, I have not has the flu once. I do get out and about I referee football matches. I go to pubs and restaurants. I go to Soul nights and Soul dayers and even Soul cruises. I DJ at some of them. I don't lock myself away yet I have managed to avoid the flu despite there being a couple of very serious flu seasons over the past decade.

Will we get it? We might. Then again we might not. I'm going on the premise that my luck will hold, especially now everything bar food shops is shut over here.

If you decide to have the jab, please keep us appraised of any side effects.

You all know why I have decided not to have the jab, yet at any rate. I support everybody who is a vaccine "yes" and wish them the best, just as I do those who, for their own reasons, have decided no/not yet. It's a personal decision based on how little we know, but still a decision that should be respected.
