It wasn't a response to anything you (or anyone else) said rA, there's been so much talk about it in many quarters I just sat down for half an hour with a pencil and paper (ok and the calculator on my phone) and 'ran some scenarios' for the first time since my days in industry. Oldest (plus care workers as a given) comes out top whatever spanners you throw in the works, APART FROM the vaccine having an unknown side effect

However, Superspreaders only matter if they are also Superkillers, and if 99% of that cohort are vaxed out of danger, what's the issue? (I know that's flippant as there is the non-fatal aspect to it but on balance I'd rather be ill than dead)

Yes it is MoP BUT, those of us with "underlying conditions" have absolutely no idea if the vaccine will react adversely to our meds (I'm on 8 a day). The Pharmaceutical companies don't know either because the vaccine has been tested, as are all meds and vaccines, on healthy adults. It hasn't been tested on people with my medical profile. Nor on pregnant women. Nor on women giving breast feeding. Nor on the under 18s. They have absolutely no clue as to how it might behave on anything other than healthy adults.

The rest of us? Not immunising provides a risk but no greater a risk than what we've been under for the past 9 months. Immunising provides me with possible extra risk. And for what. They know it limits the effects of Covid. However, they don't know if it prevents CV infection. They don't know if it will stop you spreading Covid. You will still need to mask up when out and about.

For me, there's simply way too many unknowns. That's why I'm firmly in the not yet camp. I fully respect the decision of everybody who decides NO or NOT YET. I also fully respect the decision by yourself, Andy and everybody else who already has their sleeve rolled up ready.

Hopefully, we have all looked at the facts and have come to the right decision for us.

Interestingly, I've heard that when questioned, 75% of white UK residents intend to have the vaccine, but only 50% of BAME intend to have it. This seems remarkable when you consider the death figures for the BAME.

I am ready for that cold needle, it's precisely owing to underlying condition and 8 a day (in remission, sky's the limit in relapse), that I'll have no hesitation to roll up the sleeve. I don't fancy another year of not being able to leave the house, it's not healthy in any way. The risk of Covid is a known quantity, and any opportunity to avert that quantity, is a gift from my atheist heaven. I'd also quite like to visit my elderly relatives, which is simply not an option with us both being classed extremely vulnerable in these times. The sooner the better for me.

There’s a subtle but definite emphasis by the media on stressing to BAME groups should vaccinate, I was shocked by some of the rubbish given by black folk this for not taking it, not that there aren’t white people with equally stupid reasons. ‘Protected by garlic’? Jesus Wept
