You obviously know nothing about what has happened in the banking industry in the last 25 years or so and especially since the banking crash. Huge numbers have left banking with nothing but the basic minimum redundancy. The banks have been ruthless in cutting staff and branches. I agree with everything you say.
Gordon Brown when he was the Chancellor of the Exchequer in 2001 stopped excellent profit sharing schemes operated by the banks and brought in a bonus scheme which was target driven.
People should remember that profit sharing is only paid if a bank makes a profit whilst bonuses were paid even if the bank made a loss providing the member of staff reached their target.
