I wouldn't say obsessed RA, I am and always will be, my closest first.
That probably puts me, in GP's bracket of things, but i can't help that.
I do agree with the population thing though and it has been raised before. the poorer countries just keep on breeding, where as in the west we seem to have adopted a smaller family mentality, based on what is comfortable.
I know it sounds like I'm picking on you, I'm not honest.
Your way would be wonderful, but I just can't see past the more you do, the more the greed kicks in from all angles.

Tricky...it doesn’t feel as if you’re ‘picking on me’ and I’ve got broad enough shoulders not to worry if you were, so don’t bother about that.
It’s just a different perspective.
I don’t know how to get past the ‘greed’ kicking in either...as for the population thing. A classic example of how education - not of the evangelical religious variety - and properly targeted resources provided and supplied by the wealthier world could help.

Both extremes are as useless as each other. We need joined up thinking that everyone can buy into, we have to accept that will come at a cost. we have to accept that those with least will remain that way, that there will be casualties, dramatic life style changes for most if not all.

I suspect that we MIGHT be able to address global warming but in so doing we will make the poverty / famine / equality worse. Its an either/or option. Do we sacrifice 2 billion people to defer the effect of global warming? Where does idealism get you on that choice.

Actually as saint Nigel has said.
With all the above points being mentioned- over population/climate change/greed(from corporate to chancers)/politicians wierd decisions. Our invasion carries on relentless. In fact Europe is being invaded for all the above reasons.

Trump was slaughtered for his Mexican wall, by the EU. Yet Greece have built one now, to rival Hungary etc. Not a word of complaint mentioned.
My question is this. If it carries on, how long before it descends into a back lash war, as it can't carry on?

Thats selective quoting - he got more than the BBC News channel and the rolling sky news which isn't the same thing - against the specific BBC news and Sky News programme he was nowhere near! I saw these claims being made on social media by the usual suspects and closer examination showed them to be as usual to be false.

Nigel Farage mentioned that he would just leave Britain if Brexit was a disaster.

He did say those things, on numerous occasions, but what his comments confirm is that regardless of the success or failure of Brexit, he will be alright. He will still be “widely consulted” for his views on international political issues and populist revolts against the political establishment.

Has anyone seen him within 10 miles of a UK fisherman? Despite his farcical voyage on a fishing boat down the Thames during the referendum campaign, promising Brexit would be "great" for Uk fishermen?

Why do some media and a lot of stupid people take any notice of this failed politician and charlatan? Surely you have to be brain dead to believe a word of what he says? And a complete fool if you think he gives a flying **** about the fools he persuaded to vote leave!

Dyson another prominent Brexiteer moved his firm's HQ to Singapore, where as well as an advantageous tax reggae, he can take advantage of Singapore's trade deal with the EU and avoid the consequences of Brexit on his firm.


John Redwood also has his finances in order, advising investors to avoid Britain as the country’s economy “hits the brakes”.

That’s despite promising that the “economic gains of leaving the EU will be considerable” before the referendum.

It all goes to show that regardless of how Brexit pans out, those who led the campaign are shielded from its repercussions, whereas most of those who voted for it are not.

Meanwhile the weekly economic loss to the UK far exceeds the mythical £350 million per week that apparently was going to be spent on the NHS instead!!

It’s scary precedent to think that those who made the promises have no exposure to the consequences when they don’t get delivered.

They could just have promised anything.

And they probably did.

Quite right Tricky, there is a shortage of HGV drivers throughout Europe, however we have been harder hit in the UK and the two principle reasons given are 1) the number of HGV drivers retiring and 2) Brexit.

On the population theme. It is true that parents in poorer countries tend to have large families, much larger on average than here in the West.

Many learned folk put it down to those countries also having a high infant mortality rate. Parents have large families to try and guarantee that there are enough left over to look after the parents when (if?) they get to old age. In the richer countries you don't need elevent-een kids to make sure there are enough left to take care of you in later life, hence the smaller families.

Some years ago Bill Gates said that a proper vaccination programme in the poorer countries would lead to a large reduction in the birth rate there and stabilise and maybe even reduce population levels. That led to anti vaxers claiming he wanted to kill millions of people.
