OK, I'll try and get us back on track as no-one else seems inclined

1. It will only be proven premature in due course. NB Sorry to go back to the earlier discussion but logically, premature isn't linked to political
2. Is it political? Yes, in the same way all decisions by politicians are political
3. Is it thought through. IMO, yes, with risk attached. I also think its a a reflection of the way the country is moving anyway, and (back to politics) HMG won't want to 'lose the dressing room'. Contrast it with the rage on the ground in Scotland, who may be under restrictions for another six months (with good reason if a killer variant arises, see risk above)
4. Is it backed by the scientists? It would appear so.with qualifications, judging by the press conference. This isn't USSR those very respected and very well paid scientists have their own mind and have free will to go against the pm in public if they want. Or are they being political too, keeping their own counsel to preserve their relative positions of influence?
5. Is it a deflection from the PM's issues? Partly IMO but its a move I support so I'll let him off that. So will many, and the vox pops appear tobear that out
