I had us down for 11th and a season of stability....
Shows how much I know lol..

I think getting Rathbone was important, Smith scoring a lot more than he usually does, two excellent goalkeepers and the best defensive record in all of English football (.576 goals conceded per game) none of which I foresaw.

Yes all of those plus a big factor in my view is the quality of the squad.
We have three players out atm who all would probably start but it's not been a problem and others have come in an excelled

In the past we only ever had 14 or so players and outside of those it would be a weakened team

I have watched us since 1965 and given the context, given the opposition, given the resources, so far this has been the finest season I have ever witnessed. You don't win promotions by outplaying sides every week. You can't do that. They have comparable players and resources. You do it by winning however and whatever it takes and Paul Warne is doing that. Magnificent and I deeply regret my criticism of him in the past.

Well it wasn't a great night on the pitch but on paper 3 more teams can now no longer catch us.

My son made an interesting observation after I texted my despondency to him following the Shrewsbury game.

He said that even if we only achieve 1 point per game in our final 11 matches, MK Dons would still need to average 2 points per game in their run in to overhaul us.

All of the other contenders would need to achieve in excess of 2 points per game.

Obviously any one of them might do that but it did make me feel better when one considers the enormity of the task.

We just have to avoid the wheels coming off and frankly if they do we won't deserve automatic anyway. If we win 4 of 6 home games and pick up 3 draws MKD would have to win probably 8 games and draw 2 of 11. They still have to play us, Wigan, Owls and Oxford and finish away at Plymouth. They would need around 2.3 pts per game.

On PPG MK Dons are currently tracking to get 87pts. If they beat us on Saturday that will raise to 88, draw or lose to us and it drops to 86 and 84 respectively. So theoretically, win on Saturday and just a couple more wins will be enough to secure promotion, lose and we'll need at least 4 more wins. So literally it is a 6 POINTER.
