I've been saying that for ages. If you set the bar at Fullarton as manager, Branston as head of recruitment, and (insert your own name) as owner, it's easy to make things look better. To me saying that we are at better than our many lowest points is accepting mediocrity and failure.

I agree we need a solid base to build on, but do we have it? There's been a few moans about negativity on here today, but there are also those who think that we are now a well run club with great owners so success automatically has to follow. I sincerely hope they are right, but I would have liked to see a few more signs that we are moving in the right direction.

I believe we now have a reasonably well-run club, but I don't think success automatically has to follow. Football is an unpredictable, somewhat random game and sometimes you can do most things right and still not get the outcome you deserve. What I would say is that your chances of success as an owner are greater and more sustainable if you seek to build a sensible, solid base, rather than over-reaching yourself, which was ultimately the mistake made by the Trews and Alan Hardy. They went for broke - albeit I believe with good intentions - but it didn't work and then we found ourselves sinking deeper into the mire.

As this is the closest thing to a transfer thread (good old free for all atm it seems) has anyone cast their eye on chesterfields retained list? Makes interesting reading. All rowes ex Gloucester boys released or transfer listed along with a certain high earner Calvin Miller. Would seem JR was splashing the cash liberally and now it’s time to cut some cloth. Also spotted Ben Wynter has left Torquay - anyone know where he’s going? I’m assuming not us as we’ve got our RB.

We can't expect the championship, and the play offs are the play offs, but not to be serious contenders for the title at any point in three seasons with one of the top three average gates in the league reflects very poorly on these owners.
I would imagine the general trend of owners across the game would indicate it's more likely to go downhill from here than up, if they haven't achieved anything on the back of the bounce and goodwill a change in ownership usually brings.
The pressure on them will only increase from here.

Stall said on MC that talk of "4 year plans" is really just PR to manage expectations.

I genuinely have no idea to what you're referring here. Can you explain/clarify what it is you feel they've done wrong? (Serious, not being facetious btw)

Well that wasn't the case with the Forest owner. It took 5 years but it's not gone downhill now.

I am happy with them in control. Yes there are still lessons to learn, but talk about them being under pressure imo is somewhat premature, and the claims made previously that they lack ambition just doesn't sit right with me.

Having said that, the importance of getting the head coach position right cannot be under-estimated.

My point is that almost all of those 96 clubs have had better owners, on the whole, than we have. So this notion that there's only owners of the quality of Trew, Hardy and Scardino out there and that these epic failures at Notts are the sole benchmark for measuring the competence of the Reedtz bros does not cut it with me.

As I've said a few times now in recent days, the Reedtz are turning out to be yet another link in that ball and chain, which needs to be cut. Still time for them to do it, but based on the past three years I can't see it happening, especially not after that statement today.
I agree with UTM ! lets get rid of these clowns and get some proper owners in charge , with real money who can hire and fire mangers at the drop of a hat and over inflate the squad with moderate players who aren't designed to play the way the manger wants !!
The chuckle brothers out and ....... oooooh hang on a second, who are we going to get in ?????

It seems that signings will be made to suit our "system" and the haed coach may have to make a silk purse out of a pigs' ear or, if he/she is lucky, evrything gels. Who knows?

Don’t you know anyone? Surely we can get the Danish royal family to invest or the owner of the NY Yankees. They were interested in the past, right? Queued up with all the other billionaires looking to invest in the formerly known oldest league club in the world. I think they are waiting until we are in League 2.
