PS: Forgot to say, the title needs to be changed to ‚Phil Parkinson and Andy Reid both turn down Notts’

I’d take him back in a heartbeat
Maybe they have, I don't know!

I've got a soft spot for Derry by the way and think that what he lacks/lacked tactically and aesthetically he made up for in team spirit and love for the club.

I fear you are right. If the next appointment is another 'who?' who says all the right things but gets off to a bad start, it could be the bros Fullarton moment.

For what it's worth, I'm still fully behind them and their approach. It's easy to take for granted the less glamorous stuff they've done, like restoring some dignity and stability to the club. But we need to start seeing some progress on the pitch.

The Altrincham boss turning us down was a bit of a wake-up call. I fear the Notts job is now seen as a poisened chalice - and for good reason. A bit like Man Utd in the Prem, anything but winning the league is seen as a failure, but in reality, they are never going to win it. So any new manager who takes the helm is doomed to fail.

At Notts, Ardley was sacked with us in 5th. Birchnall was taking some heat for the same finish. Realistically, fifth is about what we can hope for next season as well. This is a tough league - incomparable to when teams like Mansfield and Lincoln were down here - and the Notts job is about as unforgiving as it gets.

I think Birchnall realised that. And perhaps Parkinson did as well.

So who's up for the challenge?

The thing the bros are trying to do has never been done at Notts before: identify a group of candidates who are already in jobs they presumably enjoy and are successful in, and then persuade them to give that up to join our project. Maybe they’d underestimated how difficult that might be, or the financial inducement may not be enough?

We have a relatively narrow set of criteria for the job. Most of the options out there would want more control over off-the-field matters. So that just leaves those who are:

    - Happy to be a head coach
    - Happy to play a prescribed style of football that has so far proven to be ineffective when it matters most
    - Happy to join a club whose fans expect promotion, in a league that is ultra-competitive

Not easy to find someone who fits all three.

The type of coaches that fit the first two will likely have little or no experience of this division, like Luke Tisdale.

Can't see why it is such a big thing that he has chosen not to come.

He needed to look at the whole picture. Travelling, family, work-life balance, wanting to carry on the work he has started etc.

I am glad though that we are looking to people already in jobs, rather than only those looking for their next job because they are out of work.

In terms of season ticket renewals, don't forget Notts still have the magic card that all clubs have up their sleeve and that is:

What else are you going to do on Saturday afternoon? A trip to IKEA? A spot of fishing in the canal near the ground?

I guess these sort of comments and statements are made at this time of the season at many many clubs that didn't achieve their aim last season.

I think a few are making a lot of the parameters the owners are apparently putting on. There are positives, they probably have the best in class data and analysis below at least the championship for identifying players that the coach gets input on, strange as it might seem, a current MANAGER may see this as a huge plus and also know full well many clubs are going down the head coach route now anyway.
Secondly can they handle being told how to play? Come on do we think the owners are dictating EXACTLY on how to play, they basically want a coach who wants to play expansive attacking football, I imagine there’s a lot out there that also want this. The managers that don’t want to come for these reasons are probably going to be left behind after not too long as this is where their profession is going.

Also there are a lot of owners out there managers would steer clear of, here they have 2 that don’t interfere and probably are giving them a top 3 budget, it’s not all bad.
