To be fair, whoever became PM faces incredibly difficult choices for which there are no easy answers and whatever decisions are made will upset some section of the electorate.

Just because you don't like someone or you think they generally spout rubbish does not mean that they are always wrong and don't raise genuine concerns or don't make valid points however. There are some things that I d o agree with that Truss has said. We do need to increase our defence budget (although with far greater due diligence than has been shown in the past over new equipment!) and we do need to urgently look at becoming more independent regarding energy and explore nuclear as well as solar, wind and wave more (I'm not sold on fracking quite yet).

I understand she is a Tory and she is right in saying that profit, in itself, is not a dirty word but it is if those profits are made by exploiting others and that includes poor wages or working conditions. The pandemic showed that most key workers -posties, couriers, retail workers, NHS and care workers etc-were amongst the most poorly paid. Society is never fair whether capitalist or communist and democracy is messy and not perfect but surely our leaders should strive to make it as fair as possible? Liz Truss won't and that is where I disagree with her and her ilk.

    To your last paragraph Omeg.

I think we're seeing a sea change when it comes to what people are willing to accept in terms of wages and conditions.

You only need to speak to other small business owners like I do and to business owners at cafes and restaurants and hotels as I've done this year to hear what they're saying about staffing issues at present.

Particularly with younger people, they're not prepared to do these sorts of jobs for the money on offer anymore.

It doesn't really matter how much you deregulate the jobs market if you can't get people to do the jobs on offer.

Unless you bring these people in from abroad.

Here you go again, rewriting history.

I was never against legal Eu workers.

I was against ridiculous Eu laws and on illegal immigration.

Accepted that the latter is no better and is possibly worse than before Brexit but don’t try to paint me into a lie!

What EU laws were impacting your life, and how has Brexit improved that?

Liz Truss' "energy price freeze" is a sleight of hand.

Reports say you'll pay back a temporary freeze via higher bills over 10-20 years.

While gas & oil firms keep billions in excess profits. Ffs how is this fixing the issue just kicking the can up the road!

You’re jumping the gun, this is not what has been decided.

Don’t blame anyone for not working for the paltry minimum wage - it’s pathetic! Many young people are working cash in hand plus getting benefits too and don’t blame them. Had to wait over one hour for baggage to come out when returning at the weekend from holiday to be told - nobody wants to work unsociable hours for the minimum wage! I get it! People should stop moaning about the lack of staff and pay people a decent wage!

    I don’t disagree.

Businesses such as cafes need to offer better wages and put their prices up to customers.

This will see a closure of the poorest establishments hopefully and the quality remain.

I’d rather pay £6 for my sandwiches than £4 and see the staff better paid.

Talking to friends who own cafes and restaurants though, people in general and youngsters in particular are really against this type of work now.

Unsociable hours are as much of a problem as anything apparently.

That said, if you could earn £30k working in a cafe etc then I’m sure it’d see people choosing those jobs.
