For the avoidance of doubt, let me be clear on where I stand on UK Government support. I suspect that they have (or intend to) thrown enough money at the issue, it is just targeted completely wrong. It is just utterly ridiculous that in the announcement last week they are providing the same level of support per house regardless of whether it is a family of four with one working earning the average wage of £29,000 or a family of four where there are two people working earning say £150,000 between them. Much more money should go to those that need it and frankly the taxpayer should not be subsidising people who can afford to pay the extra costs themselves.
Where you draw the line between those that get help and those that don't need it are for people with more knowledge than me to figure out but as a point of principle and in a world where we are desperately short of funding public services, taxpayers money needs to be much better managed by Governments. Same applies in Scotland where it is frankly ludicrous that wealthy people receive free prescriptions/University places/dentists etc.
