You'd certainly hope so Matt with the #radar rumoured to be working 25/7. They should be proactive and already have an active list of targets in case they want to pull the trigger on a signing.

As always it's quality over quantity, and I'd be happy with just one or two coming in based on the #radar's past record.

Ideally, we’d find upgrades and then send Francis and Mitchell out on loan - we currently have two good strikers and need another decent option. The problem in midfield is having very few good alternative choices now JOB is out for possibly another month. Neither Francis not Mitchell look like “promotion material”, alas.

Castro feels like something from American football - someone you wheel on when you have a free kick 30 yards from your opponent’s goal. Otherwise, he feels like a bit of a liability (see his careless surrender of possession for the first goal yesterday).

I was very excited about Castro, thought he was good when he came on as sub and then a great game at York but last 2 starts he’s been shocking unfortunately. Francis and Mitchell are not bad players but as u say their not high end performers. If I was Notts I’d probably be looking for a young striker in the Prem or Champ, someone who potentially could thrive in this league but also would accept their not a starter, but I guess that’s not as easy gas it sounds.

When you look at the Reedtz' tenure, I'd say the biggest question mark about the recruitment comes after a season has started.

They struck paydirt with Cal Roberts when they signed him in January 2020, but how many other upgrades did we get since then? Didn't work out with Lewis Knight due to injuries, etc. But other than them, has it all been loanees we've signed?

Richardson last season would have to go down as a success (despite the way it ended); ditto Patterson. But then there were the likes of Zak Brunt (very disappointing), Sam Graham (not comfortable playing the ball out from the back so not really great for us), the keeper from Liverpool, the centre half from Sheff Wed who was an emergency stopgap during the injury crisis.

We had some real average players during the Ardley era, too (including a plethora of fullbacks who played a handful of games for us and, of course, the rarely-spotted Matty Wolfe, who made a grand total of 1 league games for us on loan from Barnsley).

We should expect our rivals to strengthen their squads this season, so we will need to as well - and they will need to strengthen our squad, not just add to the numbers. Anyone seen the next Macaulay Langstaff in any of the National Leagues this season? Or know if Forest have a new Ryan Yates on their hands who'd they'd be happy to loan out for the rest of the season?

If we have any aspirations for top spot, I agree. Unless we are simply covering losses we should have a few quid to spend, and the strong suggestion from yesterday was that we don't have a lot of strength in depth.

That’s true, we should really be able to tempt some quality loans you would hope now sat at the top of the table playing good football. Interesting Zak Brunt has been a starter for BW all season and sounds like he’s doing very well as he did at Southend, just didn’t quite happen at Notts but he never really got a proper chance.

To be fair, you can probably add Wolfe and Brennan to the list of good players we’ve got on loan under the brothers that didn’t work out for whatever reason. Wolfe is now a regular at Barnsley and Brennan has played a fair few games for Wednesday since going back before going out on loan to Swindon.

I’ve seen a fair bit of speculation linking us with Nick Haughton who’s scored a few goals for Fylde this season. We were maybe looking at him if Ruben left in the transfer window.

We definitely need backup in defence if Baldwin is out for a while and generally injury prone, also up front. It’s worth bearing in mind though that many of our successful seasons have been achieved with relatively few team changes. Keep em fit and don’t get suspended!

Apart from maybe 3 or 4 the rest are just not good enough. The management are kidding themselves if they think otherwise.
