At our level the fewer passes made the less likelihood there is of one of them going astray. Vice-versa, passing out quickly or even a big boot cuts out the enemy's attackers and confuses their midfield, the answer is to mix it up a bit. We succumbed to that high press many times in the last two seasons, I had hoped we had learned to cope with it.
