2016 and won't be till at least 2026, 10 years for a government who said they would have a country up and running in only 18 months is pretty damning. I thought PIP was one of the one of the few benefits they did now control I could be wrong as there are a lot of disability benefits. They said when they do control disability benefits they will make it far easier to claim, aye as if it isnae easy enough. I wonder if the government of an independent Scotland will still hand out brand new Beamers to c***s with a sore leg or feel a bit anxious?

Got the answer that the level of taxation raised in Scotland is greater than the Direct Grant from Westminster. However it raised another question con earning the amount of tax revenue that is returned to Scots as distinct from the Holyrood. Suppose all the money paid out in benefits and pensions when added to the Direct Grant is more than the amount of tax paid to Westminster?
Does that create a serious problem for Scottish independence?

Another question to consider - how much export tax goes into Westminster coffers from Scottish producers. We have world class and premium product leaving the country - whisky, seafood, smoked salmon (I'll leave oil and gas out) etc. - but where does the tax raised from it when it crosses the border go?

Total spirit market in UK worth about £9bn. Scots whisky worth about £1.7bn. It isn't nearly enough to fund anything. Salmon industry is a disgrace, imo. As a keen trout fisher , the pollution caused by the Norwegian owned salmon farms that operate in the sea lochs on the West Coast of Scotland is harming natural stocks of sea trout. Think the Norwegians now insist that their home based fish farms have closed water systems to prevent pollution. Can't see the SNP taking any similar action.

That is correct.
Michael Russell was a panelist on BBC Question Time back in 2018 and he admitted that the Scottish Government could not afford to pay out all the extra welfare powers they had been demanding from Westminster because it cost too much money.
This statement by Russell hit the nail on the head.
The SNP controlled Scottish Government knew that independence was a ‘dead duck’ because instead of being responsible for the current 40% of powers under devolved matters they would be responsible for other 60% of Scottish matters which Westminster are still responsible for.
