jacobncfc no it is not about taking someone off the tele just because they said something some people don't want to hear. It was because the BBC is supposed to be seen to be politically neutral. EP I am not quite sure who I am trying to belittle with their answers, so not really pot kettle. BFP you have my political views all wrong, as there are/were a lot of things I liked about Jeremy Corbyn but I suspect even that would not left wing enough for you. In my opinion you are way off beam regarding Paul Embery, but I am happy for you to think differently to me.

The BBC’s impartiality rules (obviously) only apply to news and current affairs staff, not football presenters lol.

Brian Clough used to say that, and he was probably right.

I'm taking a risk here by mentioning two ex-Forest people in the same Tweet, but I actually think the best 'anchor' presenter on any of the football programmes I've seen is David Prutton. He's intelligent, knowledgeable, witty and very relaxed, which usually enables him to bring the best out of his co-presenters and pundits. Personally I hope he continues to present Football League programmes on Sky, because I spend a lot of time watching those, but if was offered the kind of salary Lineker gets to present MoTD, I think he would be more deserving of it.

I wasn't saying you were belittling anyone, my comment was aimed at you talking about 'balanced debate'.

Balanced debate for you would be a panel all saying things you agree with!

Think he might be mixing him up with Lineker's brother.

Anyway, this whole peeing contest should demonstrate once and for all that the licence fee needs to be dropped. It's totally archaic and unique to the UK. Then the BBC can say and do as it pleases and people will have the choice whether or not to pay for the propaganda and the privilege of being lectured to.

To be fair, the rot began to set in for British Television when the Tory government made the decision to give the ITV regional licences to the highest bidder rather than on quality of output when they came up for renewal in 1992 and - out of spite over that documentary on the Irish situation - kicked Thames Television into touch (ITV's jewel in the crown) and replaced it with the appalling Carlton TV who all but single headedly destroyed ITV by swallowing up the other regional companies one by one (they were the reason we lost the Nottingham studios). ITV went swiftly down the toilet, gradually filling it's schedules with the same lowest common denominator programmes, the BBC no longer had a true competitor to keep it on its' toes and its' been a race to the bottom ever since.

Yup… I remember BBC “impartiality” during the 2019 election. I could find examples from other BBC Political pundits all day, but this one has to go down in the annuls of history as being me of the most perverse and cringe worthy.

    BBC Tory bias… surely not!

A lot happening (or not happening):

Football presenters have been pulling out of key BBC programmes in support of Lineker after he was told to "step back" from Match Of The Day

Football Focus has been replaced by Bargain Hunt on the BBC One schedule, shortly after presenter Alex Scott said it "doesn't feel right" to go ahead with the show

Final Score also disappeared from the BBC One list, with The Repair Shop now listed for 4:30pm after presenter Jason Mohammad also said he would not appear today

Presenter Colin Murray said BBC 5 Live's Fighting Talk was not airing today "for obvious reasons", which he said was "a decision taken by the entire FT team and myself"

Match Of The Day pundit Ian Wright has said he'll quit if the BBC "gets rid" of Lineker

Greg Dyke, a former director general of the BBC, said the corporation was "mistaken" to take Lineker off air

On the BBC should have more match highlights than yapping away I agree.

The problem is unless Sky/BT agree to this I think MOTD are only allowed to show so much of each game.

The in-between bits are basically the exact same routine every single week, a really bad and predictable pun from Lineker, to which Wright or Richards laugh hysterically, the winning team we've just watched get shown pressing and chasing down whilst Shearer says "and they did this time and time again", then the losing side's defender is virtually moved by the graphics department to a position where he could have prevented a goal followed by a stop frame of the back four/five out of shape for a split second and something being said about them being all over the place for the entire 90 minutes.
I've switched to highlights on youtube.
